Hello all.. first post here on this forum. I haven been a happy owner of a Dell m6400 workstation for the past 4 years now. The other day the keyboard locked up. No lights, no working keys at all. The pointer in the center of the keyboard still works. There is a light above the keyboard that looks like a lock with a #9 inside. I swapped out an old keyboard with missing keys, which did not help the issue. Everything else appears to work fine.

    Any ideas?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Check that the connector from the touch pad, on the palm rest, to the motherboard is not loose. Either that or the touch pad, which houses the connector for the keyboard, is faulty.

Should work fine. However, do remember you will lose the usual bootup screen but everything should show on the screen once the OS loads. Don't panic though, you can still access the BIOS and boot device selection using the usual keys.

Thanks, I ordered it. Looking forward to not having to cheque system requirements when buying games on steam. That and possibly 1080p DP>HDMI for some older games.

Well, it's not THAT powerful (it's 5870M GPU, so gets comparable scores to e.g. Nvidia 650M in 3d Mark 11), but compared to the FX2700M it should be quite an improvement, I guess.

why do you have to in my cereal?
I realize by today's standards its not an amazing card but I'm mainly playing older games and at 720p on an old 32"
As long it runs and looks better than my Xbox 360 I'm happy.

I started to put in in then chickened out and had a buddy that owns a computer store put it in for me. So far its been great! Thanks everyone that offered support and advice.

Guys i read some conversation at the internet and found some conclusion:

"RGBLED on the m6400 is the same as "DreamColor" screen at hp 8730w, which means same quality, just different marketing names. "

So i have a question, is it possible to swap dreamcolor from hp and put it to m6400 without problems?
somebody know what is s/n and model of this rgbled at m6400?
