The one I got off ebay for my M6400 is "M6400 WUXGA RGB LED LCD Screen Panel FR928 LTN170CT08". Hope it helps.

Is it worth buying and upgrading?

The backlight died on my Precision m6400. I'm thinking that instead of replacing the LCD panel, I'll just replace the entire display cover and get an edge-to-edge display (K583F). As long as I replace the entire display cover, are the connections the same back to the machine? Will I need any wiring changes or can I just remove the old display lid, connect the new display lid, and be all set? (Note that I have the Quardo FX 2700M video card, if that matters.)
    Thanks for your advice!

In the interest of helping anyone in the future who may read this, I can confirm that the K583F works perfectly with my standard Dell Precision m6400. Compared to the original, it is certainly a beautiful display. I would strongly advise anyone in my position who is trying to keep one of these m6400s alive (in my case, until someone will sell me a new 1200+ line laptop) to consider this upgrade. As long as you are reasonably comfortable taking the machine partially apart, it is an easy installation.

I lost my M6400 Covet which happen to be my favorite laptop in a fire. I have been spending the last few months on trying to find another one to replace it with no luck. I finaly bought a new motherboard, base, lid with RGB LED E2E LCD and got it running. The only problem I have is it wants a Service Tag number. Would anybody be willing to share their Service Tag for a covet or be willing to tell me with I can get one. Dell is no help at all.

    Thanks
    Charles

If it's asking for that in BIOS... it shouldn't need to be a real service tag number; you can just put in gibberish.

I figured I could but I was really wanting a Covet tag number at least when I search Dell it would come up on the Covet page. Thanks.
