    Thanks for the info, John.

I went ahead and ordered an eSATA cable from MonoPrice. It works OK. I ordered one with an "I" connector vice one with an "L" connector.

    Bob.

Has anyone setup dual external monitors? I am trying to use a pair of older Dell 21" CRT monitors (P1130) with VGA inputs using the docking station Display Ports and DP to VGA cables. The system only wants to allow the external monitor to display 640x480 and does not give me choice on screen resolution.

Have you installed the monitor's drivers? It is possible the cables interfere with the detection, but the drivers may help? (Just a guess)

Thanks for the hint. I'm using whatever came with the laptop. I used the monitors (plus laptop top display) on an i8500, but that was using an external monitor card in the PCMIA port, so I was hoping to be able to do the same sort of thing, i.e., have 3 monitors.

I find the disks that came with the monitors and check the net for updates and see if loading drivers helps.

    Thanks again.

    Bob.

    Hi there.
I am the owner of an M6400 and I am really happy with it.

I'd like to know how many HDD does it support and if I can upgrade the CPU to an X9100 Xtreme core duo.
Also is it possible to overclock it via software?

    Cheers.:)

It has slots for two laptop HDD and four slots for laptop 1066 Mhz RAM.
    I don't know about the X9100 CPU.
By default, the M6400 does not allow you to OC in any way. But there's an application called: 'Throttle Stop' developed by UncleWeb that will allow OCing of extreme CPU from within Windows.

I have a quick question. Just did a Windows 7 clean install, everything is good except I can't seem to get the webcam to work properly. The device manager says the driver is loaded, but the dell webcam software does not recognize that the webcam. It says I need to load the webcam driver. What am I missing? Thanks.

Hi everyone, I'm a new owner of the M6400.

I have many questions. (So sorry about that.)

    1) How do I charge my battery properly? How do I know if it's fully charged? Can I charge it when using the computer at the same time?

    2) What do the symbols below F1 to F12 stand for? I know they are function keys, like F1 is hibernate. Well, I don't know about the rest.

    3) What is a good codec to use with Win 7 Pro x64 Windows Media Player?

    4) Can my computer play Warcraft 3? I've heard stories of random crashes. How do I go about it? Which DirectX must I install or do my graphics card drivers from dell is suffice?

Hope the M6400 owners here are able to help a new user.

    Thanks and regards,
    Jude

    1) You can have the computer plugged in and use it at the same time. If the battery needs to be charged, the computer will charge it and stops (may trickle charge) when the battery is full. When you move your mouse pointer over the battery icon in the notification area (assuming you are using Windows 7), a little pop-up will either say charging or AC (100%) or somethinglike that.
    2) You can download the manuals from here:
    Documentation
    3) I use Shark007 Codecs myself.
    4) Don't know the answer because I do not play that on the M6400 but I did on a much lesser power computer fine. List your specs. and someone may be able to help.

Did you use the webcam CD with the driver specifically for the M6400 to install drivers?
