As far as i know just shut down the M6400 and start it again. (Machine must be off). This is a temprary Mode that holds as long as the unit is under power (Battery or plugged) after turning off the unit this will only available again if you activate it again.
    regards

Firstly I'm sorry if any of this seems extremely obvious but this is my first experience of configuring a RAID set up.

I have recently purchased a reconditioned Dell m6400 that has come with 2 250gb hard drives and Vista pre-installed. It currently has no RAID configuration.

I have purchased a copy of Windows 7 pro and would like to upgrade the operating system and configure the 2 hard drives into a RAID 0 configuration.

I have viewed these two youtube videos that have been really helpful

    YouTube - HOW 2 SETUP RAID 0

YouTube - How to configure raid 0 in the bios and install windows 7

and believe that I can go through the various menus and configure the RAID 0 setup fairly comfortably however once I get to the windows install screen I am completely baffled by the drivers option? Where exactly can I get the correct drivers from for my machine? Do the drivers relate to your hard drives or your computer? I have taken a look on the Dell website here

    and also

    here

but have no idea what drivers I will need. I have included a photo of my RAID setup screen that shows details of my hard drives etc..

Any help would be really appreciated as you can probably tell I am new to this and am reluctant to go head first into something if it will result in me messing up my computer.

A step by step fools guide to setting this up would be really helpful to me.

    Thanks in advance!

    my m6400 specs are -
    2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo (T9600) Processor
    4Gb Memory (2 x 2Gb) DDR3 1066Mhz
    500Gb (2 x 250Gb) Hard Drive
    FX2700M 512Mb Graphics Card
    17" WUXGA 1920 x 1200 (Matt Finish)

No reason to be baffled: You don't need any special drivers, just install Windows. Make sure the BIOS option is set to RAID, however. Once you have done that, you may want to install the Intel Storage Manager software that is available from Dell's driver site for the M6400.

Concerning the well known issue of losing speakers' sound, I asked Dell Tech support and they sent me a new keyboard (which has the speakers on it).

All worked well for a while but now I have the same problem, speakers' sound is unpredictably intermittent.

I think that it is a software issue because in all cases it started to happen after watching streaming video.

    ..any ideas?

I may have missed the boat here, but is there any way to output 5.1 sound over displayport/hdmi to vlc/mediaplayer classic?

EDIT: I'm assuming that hdmi can't do 5.1.... Anyone recommend a 5.1 spdif soundcard for the M6400?

SP/DIF with the DisplayPort works in theory. But there are a lot of problems with different flatscreens. So nvidia just disabled for exaple the audio out when any Philips screen is connected.

i just baught a Creative X-FI 5.1. It is a USB soundcard with optical out. it is not the best solution because you need an additional cable to your hifi equipment but it works.
