I've had no luck so far, but I've only been waiting for someone here to do the work for me. I guess I'm going to look into the manuals of the listed compatible Dells and see what that brings, tho I have a feeling the answer's not in the manuals. So now I'll have to have another coffee and think over exactly where to look. I'll make this deal though, if I find the answer I'll PM it to your account and if you find it first you do the same. Right now all that comes to mind is rephrasing the question to the Parts People since they have lots of parts and Dell laptops laying around and someone there does know. The reply they sent back was way too quick for the guy to have done much research on it so I'll ask again and suggest they take the time they need to give me a positive yes/no answer rather than 'probably'. FYI, I've bought a fair amount of stuff from the Parts People and they always delivered exactly what I ordered. And they did it quick.

I've got a question regarding performance during gaming.

I have had the M6400 for just about year now, and I have been very happy with it. I use it mainly to to run engineering programs. (Autodesk Inventor, Solid Works)

Lately though, I have had a huge problem running video games without lag.

I'm pretty sure that the connection to the internet is not the problem. 750kb/sec connection.

    I'm running X9100 3.06GHz, 8Gb DDR3, FX2700m, Windows 7 x64, and the most updated driver for the 2700m from Dell (186.81).

I'm not trying to run the games at any super crisp quality, video settings are usually medium, screen res 1440 x 900. Nothing that should really cause the games to jitter too much at all (I would think).

Any help is appreciated. I feel like I am well versed in computers so any solutions that maybe a little technical are worth a shot also.

    Thanks,
    Darian.

I'm not doubting your info at all, but can you say where you found this out? I'm only asking because I wrote the Parts People back and told them they should sure as hell have someone that knows and the reply (super quick) was that:
    "Parts-People-General Questions to me
show details 1:28 PM (1 hour ago)

They are both SATA drives so the connectors should be the same.
    Roscoe

Not exactly a firm yes, in fact not much more than the original "It should fit" they gave me the first time. So, in the interests of truth, justice and all that, why do you say no? Again, I'm not being a smart @ss, it just seems odd that an optical drive replacement that fits the Precision m4400 and the Latitude E4500 wouldn't fit the m66400. I'm leaning towards your answer but to put this particular solution to rest I need to know how you arrived at your statement. I don't want to believe you but have this feeling you may be right. Thanks for the info regardless.

Has anyone had a problem with the keyboard suddenly failing -- ie not working at all even at startup? This has happened to me recently twice. This last time, after about 10 minutes browsing and using the on screen keyboard, it started working again.

Is there someway to disable the keyboard that I'm doing by accident or it there possibly just a connection loose?

How do you actually find that slim adapter on the Dell website? I've been searching for it several times, but have failed miserably. Maybe I need the correct part number because the search by laptop model doesn't work for me. BTW, wasn't the slim one rated as 240W?

If I have the Samsung drive that Dell has a firmware update for, but didn't get the drive from Dell, should I install it or not? It's under 'recommended' and normally I'd just not do it but in my continuing education on these SSDs I could use any info or opinions you may have. I'm still trying to figure out just what's involved with 'erasing' them for maintenance purposes. They're great but a whole different ballgame than spinning drives and I get confused easily anyway.
