    Hi

Also about to order online and see option for

    1. Precision M4600 : Standard Base
    2. Precision M4600 : Standard Base for RGB LCD

What is the RGB LCD Base and do I need it? and will it cause more noise?

P.S I am going for the NVIDIA Quadro 1000M with 2GB GDDR3 / Full High Definition (1920X1080) WLED LCD Panel

    Thanks

    Badchi

Go with the RGBLED cause the WLED is very weak when compared side by side:D

The fans are remarkeably quiet (though not silent). I've got the machine sitting on a hard desk with good airflow beneath the machine. Sitting idle the fans remain off most of the time, and periodically come on for a few seconds with a slight 'whirrrrr' and they turn off again.

Under significant load the fans come on for longer but don't seem to ramp up much - and the noise is still easy to hear (a slightly louder and longer whirrrrr).

The noise shouldn't bother anybody in a library. If you were shooting a feature film that required dead silence, the microphone would pick up the fans as background white noise for a few seconds at a time.

Ultimately, the CD/DVD drive makes much more noise than (when running) than the fans.

    That help?

it will, to some extent. Optimus does not work with RGB , for superior screen you sacrifice battery life and presumably higher noise

I've been occassionally getting blue screens on my M4600. It lists the problem as "Memory Manager" and the error log:

    Has anyone had anything similar?

Thanks, look good, now I must convice myself that 1920x1200 with more than 200k pixels over 1920x1080 is not so important ... :-D

LOL, I had to do the same for myself! Especially since I don't often watch movies and the match for HD screen resolution wasn't so important. But, in the end, an extra 120 pixels spread across 7.6 inches of horizontal space only means 142.1 pixels per inch instead of 157.9, or 0.0070 inches per pixel instead of 0.0063 -- jeez I'm a geek! In other words, I don't end up noticing any difference in perceived resolution or clarity or anything...

All right after thinking so much for so many months I settled for the M4600.
    Spec:
    Processor : One Intel Core I5-2520M (2.50GHz, 3MB cache, Dual Core) 1 S
Display : 15.6in Full High Definition (1920X1080) WLED LCD Panel
    Processor : One Intel Core I5-2520M (2.50GHz, 3MB cache, Dual Core) 1 S
    230-11907 Display : 15.6in Full High Definition (1920X1080) WLED LCD Panel 1 S
    Graphic: AMD FirePro
214-10359 Palmrest : No Smart Card and No Fingerprint Reader
319-10661 Camera : No Integrated Camera with Microphone
    451-11658 Battery : Primary 6-cell 60W/HR

I'm mostly happy with the choice. Apart from the fact that there is no option to get a fringerprint reader and camera/microphone in the Uk website and a 9 cell battery!!!

Is there any way to solve this?

I ordered online but I did talk to sales person but as far as they are concerned if it's not in the website then it's not there.

    Really annoying.

Didn't someone already say that the fingerprint reader on this laptop was more of a gimmick than a functioning security device? I feel like I read that in a review or something but I'm not sure.

the fingerprint readers on the dells are quite crappy in comparison to the ones on lenovos. however i still order mine with them because of 2 main reasons

    1) convenient to logon, no need to type....i.e. while eating messy food lol
    2) sometimes i give demos of products or show designs to people on my laptop, and i dont like typing in password in front of people so it makes it easier

if you give dell a call, you should be able to get the parts which are not available on the website.
