Yeah putting more then one antivirus application on a widnows install is bad. Sometimes they can consider each others files as malware and kill one another. Either reformat or uninstall trend micro.

I'd prefer to not go through a complete reinstall of everything given that Dell has worked out the drivers, etc. for me. If I have to I can (I have all the disks necessary to rebuild the machine from scratch and have done so on prior machines as necessary), but I would prefer to start with the base machine as delivered.

And no, I did not get the IPS screen as I couldn't justify the additional $370 for it (I did get the 1920x1080 LED screen, just not the RGB-LED IPS version). Screen is very sharp, easy to read, and handles off-axis viewing without a problem. For watching movies I have a Dell U2410 IPS 24" monitor that will cconnect to the laptop - that is very nice display.

Actually, they do: there's this Ships Fast Systems | Dell
Dell calls it a "Fast Ship" model. Very vanilla. (Funny, though, I DO like good vanilla ice cream ;) )

and then this, not totally pre-config, but offers some good starting points.

Dell Precision M4600 Mobile Workstation | Dell

[EDIT: The above I discovered after some searching on my own, after I had asked the initial question a couple of days ago. ....... ]

Several years ago, when Norton was infamous for its bloat, and my laptop came with Symantec Internet Security pre-loaded, I wanted to flush it immediately. Then I noticed it was a totally different version than their Norton line. The Symantec line was sold for business computers, while Norton is for consumer machines. Two very different animals. I still moved from Symantec to another solution, but the business version of Symantec was pretty good and definitely NOT the resource hog the Norton versions were.

Sorry if the requested information has already been given, but "Search this Thread" function doesn't work.

Question: what's the weight of M4600 AC adapter?
On on-line M4600 User Manual I've found just electric specs and dimensions.

BTW, I'm looking for AC adapter's weight for M6600 too, just to more realistically compare the weights of the two machine when moving them.

I saw a comparison video a user here had posted of the m4600 with the IPS display. The display looked extremely oversaturated and when viewed from an angle the blacks looked grey. Perhaps the monitor in the video wasn't calibrated or somthing else was going on... That said I have a few questions for owners of an m4600 with the IPS display:

1.) Does the IPS display have an sRGB mode?

2.) If it does, does it still look oversaturated in non color controlled applications when in sRGB mode?

3.) Would you mind posting some comparison pictures and your impressions of the monitor in general.

5 hours plus on mine, minimum brightness [still good enough unless in direct sunlight] quadro 2000, i7-2720, seagate XT, intel 310 mSata, 87w 9 cell, WUXGA minus LED screen, 4GB ram, Windows 7 64bit, wifi on using firefox, running 43 processes, would like less, but stuff seems to stop working because it's interconnected.

It may be worse than the Lenovo for battery life, but is still pretty good in my book

    Hi

I am thinking of ordering the M4600 i7-2720QM as well :) - can you tell me what the noise level is like in a quiet room? when idle, surfing and when under load.

    Thanks

    Badchi
