Just did it 1 hour ago. 1333Mhz to 1600Mhz.

Did not do much benchmark, too lazy to swap the memory back, i worry the keyboard trim will snap off... it is too delicate.

    Hi,

    only an update from Italy.

I ordered my M4600 with IPS screen on 30/06 and today is in production.
EDD 28/07, but a hope in an anticipated delivery.

Greetings all, it's been quite a ride reading through all 58 pages of this thread.

I received my laptop last Friday, a full 5 weeks after ordering my original order. I was not happy about the wait (no one ever notified me of any delay, I contacted someone 3 weeks after order to be told my order needed to be cancelled & rebooked, it was never explained to me why), but I am very happy with my new equipment. This was an upgrade from a Precision M6300 which suited me well over the last 2 years.

I have a couple of questions that I'd love to ask, in hopes that someone here can enlighten me.

First off - as was mentioned before, the fan is fairly quiet but it whooshes on for about 3 seconds, then simmers down to a quiet hum for another 10 seconds, then turns itself off. Another 10-15 seconds go by and the process starts all over again. This occurs during idle time or even when I'm just browsing the Web and using email. Is this normal? Is there something I should do to address this?

Secondly, I'm a little confused about how the graphics work. I have an Nvidia Quadro 1000M card with 2GB of RAM, but I have both an Nvidia Control Panel (with very few options) and an Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel (with far more options). When I look at the System properties, it shows that I have 8GB of RAM but only 7.88GB usable. Why is this? I thought my video card had onboard RAM so that it wouldn't need to pull any from the system RAM. Or is the missing .12GB being used by another component?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

So, I presume XMP is supported and the M4600 doesn't just blindly go off of SPD, because the chips I bought are 1333 SPD, but actually 1600 via XMP.

Hey, try not to tear me apart for asking such a novice question but after receiving defective consumer laptops from HP and Toshiba I decided on a dell business grade model. I ordered my m4600 with just the 500GB 7200 RPM drive and I was wondering if it is possible to add the second hard drive ( the mini SSD option from their website) on my own? If it is possible what sort of unit am I looking for, also when (if) I add that drive could the boot order be changed so I could make the SSD my OS drive and the 500GB for data? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You can buy the mini SSD off market, don't buy from Dell after sales, the price is crazily high. Dell's price difference when purchase as system and after sales is huge. Boot order can be changed.

Does anyone know if Dell has plans to manufacture a slice battery for the M4600? I'm sure it would be popular since many people need more than three hours of battery life. I know that previous Precision models offered a slice battery... perhaps Dell is facing issues with their batteries? A Dell rep told me today that Dell does not even have replacement 9-cell batteries in stock. :(

Is it? I can't see it. Am I looking in the wrong place (Small & Medium Business / M4600 / Workstation Advanced / Customise)?
