    Hi all...

In the "gallery" page of the M4600 on the Dell web site, they show a picture of the right side of the computer where you can easily swap out a hard drive.

Am I right that this could actually be a third drive in the system??
    1) MiniSSD
    2) An internal drive (that's hard to access)
    3) The easily swappable drive

No. That's only the case with the m6600.
The m4600 can only have two drives: one SSD minicard and one 2.5" drive. That second drive can be swappable (after you remove some screws).

Thanks! Good to know. I was trying to configure the computer on Dell's Canadian site, but they don't show any option for the MiniSSD. Hopefully they can do it over the phone.

Yes, *all* workstations, all brands (not only the laudable M4600) will show that behavior. :) It's part of the response to the demand for more powerful CPUs and GPUs while simultaneously offering increased battery life. The only way possible to do that is to dramatically power down-step the entire system when going on battery.

Can anyone confirm whether the 2nd hard drive on the M4600 accessible from the side of the laptop? Or is it hidden deep inside the chassis? (ie How easy is it to swap in and out?)

Today i talked to a Dell rep. and he told me that optimus definitely does not work. In this forum there are a lot of people talking about that optimus works with the wled display? I'm wondering if optimus really works and why the dell guys on the phone keep telling me that it doesn't?! (I'm from Austria btw.)

I thought optimus worked fine with the WLED display, but was disabled for the IPS RGBLED display. This is because the IPS display has 10 bit color depth and Sandy Bridge integrated graphics can only do 8 bit, so you have to use the discrete graphics the whole time.

You are 100% correct sir. The customer service people the other person talked to were incorrect.

Yes it is. There are screws that hold it in place to begin with but once those screws are removed it can be inserted and removed easily via the HDD latch under the battery.
