From what I can tell Optimus is definitely worth it. It gains me an extra hour of battery life. Personally, I'd take that over a nice screen.

battery life aside, what about fans? are they still running during idling? can we make it stop by switching to the intel graphics and changing power settings to the absolute minimum? They are the noisiest part of the laptop and it will only get worse with aging.

In my few days experience with the laptop, the fans have been so quiet that I can hear the hard drive. The fans have not had to kick in except when I played some CS:S.

yea the fans are silent when web surfing/doing office stuff. every 20 mins or so you hear a small woosh and they come on for a few seconds before going silent again

So far I am loving mine! The build quality is excellent! The noise is very low even gaming its no where near any of the Alienwares I have owned.

And battery for me is lasting a tad over 3hrs. I am happy with this system.

    Darkhan,
How do you compare your M4600 and Alienwares in terms of performance and battery life? Thanks.

I Have not had a chance to Benchmark, and only played Hunted and Medal of honor. So far those have played great on high and like I said the fan noise was very low.

The system is fast, feels faster than my R3 with same specs. and battery life is about the same as the R3 on intel graphics.

The build quality vs the Alienware is better especially the newer models. My m17x r3 was a great machine but the keyboard and build feels cheap compared to the m4600. The m14x I had was super loud and hot.

I am not bashing the AW line, there still great for gaming but overall I think the m4600 line is hard to beat. I love the IPS screen the colors just pop!

Hope that helps, and this is just my personal opinion.

    Darkhan,
Grateful for sharing your assesment on both M4600 and AW.
Wait a minute, you got IPS. Does M4600 nVidia support IPS? Is it significantly better than non-IPS in terms of brightness and clarity?
    Thanks.

For M4600, is Intel Ultimate-N 6300 the most optimal choice in terms of WiFi performance?
