I don't think you get a choice from Dell. I don't remember having one. But I'm certainly not complaining about the Intel 6300.

That's pretty darn close to the results I get with my desktop.

Clarity is kind of a dated term. The only reason you get an IPS panel is for accurate color reproduction. That's it.

How do you like the M4600 speakers? Is the volume as robustly loud as Inspirion 8600?

m4600 speaker is just slightly better than M4400. I do not have Inp 8600 so I can't compare them.

In general, I am not satisfied with the speakers, they are just able to produce sound and poor for music / movie.

i think its a lot better than the M4400.... the M4400 had no bass at all and sounded very tinny.

the M4600 sounds as good as the inspiron 8600 but max volume seems to be slightly lower

Thanks for your valuable comparision. Feeble volume has been widely reported for most latest Dell notebooks. M4600 appears to be an improvement over M4400 in terms of sound volume.
BTW, somewhat off topic, can Inspirion 8600 be replaced with an SSD?

Does anyone equip his M4600 with an integrated, light sensitive HD video webcam with Dell Webcam Central software? Is it worthwhile? Is there any security concern? Is it possible to turn off the webcam video service programmatically?

Of course you can. SSD doesn't exist only in SATA, it exists in IDE form too. I have 256Gb Photofast G-Monster IDE SSD running on my ancient HP NC4200 (still alive today) and is better than the original poor IDE HDD. It is not comparable to today's SATA SSD because that is the very first generation SSD not only cost a ton at that time but also suffers from slow speed after use and not supporting TRIM. However today's IDE SSD will work much better.
