    afhstingray,
Thanks. I was unaware of Momentus XT until reading your post. It supports up to 500GB, alas, not available from Dell.

I still prefer pure SSD for its performance and reliability.

    1. Yes, but it's unlikely that everyone who has responded in this thread has the same defect.
    2. The storage is unlikely to affect the battery life to such a degree.
    3. People say that they're using Dell's default plan. Presumably, this should dim the display.
    4. They're browsing the web. A game like the Witcher 2 would drain it in an hour -- there's no cheating thermodynamics.
    5. Again, unlikely to have much of an effect and everyone who responded would have to be doing something similar.

I don't usually do this, but I am going to start a separate thread about the issue. I could buy that actual battery life would be something like 4 hours with that GPU, but 2-3 is too small. Something is fishy here (like the FirePro drivers are not being optimized for power consumption).

That's exactly the million-dollar question, but how? Please enlighten us.

No additional batteries here. As afhstingray I am using this as a desktop replacement so I can continue to work effectively when away from my office, it will be used near a power source 99% of the time.

I also received the 97Wh battery.

Is this only an issue with the FirePro? Are the Quadros running with the same battery life range?

    MrGordon,
Thanks for your reply. When connecting to AC power, do you remove the battery? Most users in Hong Kong likes to remove the battery especially in the office environment on the belief it'll extend the battery life. Is it true?

based on the reports so far the quadros dont seem to be doing much better than the firepros. but i'm not sure if anyone has tried with the non-IPS screen, because IPS dosent support optimus

if you want to learn more about batteries, check out this website:
    Battery information from Battery University

as long as the battery does not get hot, there is no harm in leaving it in the computer.

what kills a laptop battery is frequent full discharges. for best lifespan, do not let it discharge below 30% more than once every couple of months

I'm going to defer to afhstingray on this, it looks like he knows what he's talking about.

For the record though I've never removed a battery from any laptop / netbook / mobile device when on external power.
