I didn't want to believe you, but only 4 months after buying my M4600, it has just failed on me the same way. The screen will remain black, the fans will rotate at max speed for 3 seconds, then autopoweroff, leaving two LEDs on and one blanking for a few seconds.

I just called the tech support, thankfully they'll be there tomorrow and change the motherboard.

This is SCARY for a supposed semi-rugged machine, I bought it for its (advertised) long life and it bricked merely 4 months later... I don't know what to think...

Think it was good you have a warranty.

    Electronics fail sooner or later.

No bsd, no intensive work, no high temperature, on ac-power, battery insert and fully charge... It seems a blackout on a desktop pc.

    BIOS: A10
    SO: Windows 7 x64 Pro
    CPU: i5-2520M @ 2.5Ghz
    Ram: 8GB Corsair DDR3 (CMSO4GX3M1A1333C9)
    GPU: nVidia Quadro 1000M
    HD1: 256GB Crucial M4 SSD
HD2: Seagate Momentus XT 500gb (caddy)
    Monitor: FHD LG Philips LP156WF1
    Wifi: Intel 6300-Ultimate

The random shutdown happened also with original Hard drive (Seagate 750GB) and CD/DVD Drive.

Hey all, just a quick question:

does anybody know what kind of Blu-ray drive is used (make and model)?
I am looking for an aftermarket blu ray burner - afaik drive height must be 9.5mm - anything else that I need to look out for?
    thanks!

9.5 mm Sata interface, tray load, are the specs you need to use.

Kinda makes me wonder if the front bezel with the power button is acting up and causing the laptop to shut diown.

Other than that unless your getting some kind of system crash it maybe a motherboard issue.

You can always try to re-seat the memory, and check the seating of the GPU / CPU

Hi guys, I want to upgrade the graphics card of my M4600 . Given that options in mxm 3.0a format are scarce, I am wondering if it is possible to accomodate a full sized 3.0b one. Sure there is no room in the mainboard for it, but what about desoldering the dimm slots? Is this feasible or I'd better forget it?
