I have a fairly new (6months) old M4600 that came with the 15.6" touch screen 720P display. I keep hearing people talk about WLED IPS etc and I don't know what this means necessarily but I want to upgrade my display to 1080P. I know it probably means that I'll lose the touch capability but that doesn't really matter to me at this point. Will the FHD screen on this page work for me or no? If not where do I get one that will? What do I need to check to find out?

The only thing that I do know is that my current display is a 720p touch screen and is LED backlit. ... Oh and it has nvidia video card built in

I upgraded my display to a 1080p display - non IPS with no issues.

I am not sure tho what differences the touch screen display has

it would help if you can get the display part number and verify if it has a 40 pin connector. there are programs out there that can identify the dsiplay such as hardware info, etc

upgrading to the RGBLED IPS display requires a new motherboard and a slew of parts.

As the new M4700 comes out there may well be, but there is still the question if your BIOS would even reconize it.

Thank you very much. It is funny that the Dell rep told me that I cannot upgrade to backlit keyboard.

Cannot install Dell 276.43 for Quadro 2000M on my M4600 with i72960, 16gb RM, and Quadro 2000M with 2 gig GDDR3.

    Greetings to all,

Earlier today, I downloaded the above listed file from the Dell website. After expanding the zip file, the Nvidia Installer noted: Nvidia graphics driver is not compatiable with this version of Windows." This happened three times. My version of Windows is Win Professional 64 bit. My current Nvidia driver is 296.10.

Over the past two months, my system has experienced issues relating to graphics. Every two weeks or so, my screen goes to black and then the message "Ndvidia display driver stopped working and has recovered." I thought perhaps the new Dell driver might help.

Perhaps I should have started a new thread. If so, please excuse my error.

If your having driver issues it maybe best to either try using something like drive cleaner and install the GPU drivers again.

or consider a fresh install of windows or use the image restore from your hard drive if you still have it.

Your OS is it Win 7 or Win Xp 64 bit ?

If anybody is interested in upgrading to a blu-ray drive yourself here is my experience:

I bought a 9.5mm (!) bluray burner from the 'bay, "Panasonic UJ242". beware, there are other UJ242 model drives out there that are too thick and not 9.5mm.
    Installation was not-so-easy though.
The plastic faceplate is a little too wide to fit into the M4600 slot - so I cut some away with a sharp blade.
Second, and that sucks the most: the stock drive is flat, while the UJ242 front is NOT: so something does stick out.

Thanks for the response, dave-p. I should have mentioned that my OS is Win 7 Professional 64 bit. It is odd indeed that others on this forum have installed Dell's 276.43 without problems, and yet I am continually presented with the message "Nvdia graphics driver is not compatible with this version of Windows."

Now, I confess that I am not very technically inclined, but I believe that I proceeded correctly. I downloaded the file from Dell's site and then copied it from my Download folder into a separate folder on my desktop. I then clicked on the file and it expanded. Then the Nvidia installer took over, and that is when I received the error message.

As to the "Nvidia display driver has stopped working...." issue, research indicates that many experience the same problem. It may be heat related, but my computer (about four months old) does not seem to heat up excessively.

By the way, dave-p, although I live in the midwest, I am Canadian. Ottawa is a terrific city.

    Hail Fellow Cannuk :)

You can also try downloading the drivers from NVIDEa's site directly.
