Hi, new to M4600, coming from first-gen HP Envy 15 it's like night and day. Fast, cool quiet.

I am looking into using SSD caching, as I understand it Intel's Smart Response Technology is supported for the QM67 chipset. Has anyone had success in setting up Intel SRT on M4600?
    Thanks, Lars

I have not had any luck setting up a 32GB mSATA for caching within Intel Rapid Storage. Anyone get this working.

    Hi Guys,

I'm about to place the order and would like to get a clarification, does the M4600 support up to 3 (1 mSata ssd, primary bay and upgrade bay instead of the optical drive) hard drives?

Also, what is the purpose of the DMC slot (by the Wireless card slot)?

    Thanks

Intel docs only mention the desktop Z68 chipset being supported. HP has enabled it on some HM67 laptops though. From researching this a bit it seems that the chipset firmware (option ROM) has to support caching, and Dell hasn't loaded such a firmware. But that's just a guess.

Yes you can support 3 drives on the m4600. which includes removing the CD Drive and using a after market (ebay) caddy that takes its place.

Awesome! Do you know what the DMC slot is for? It looks similar to a Wifi slot, BTW.

    Also, got the following specs:

    IPS RGBLED
    2760QM
    4GB RAM (have 16GB 1866mhz HyperX waiting)
    750GB HDD (have a 256GB SSD waiting)
Basic Nvidia card (will upgrade to a FirePro when the new gen is out)
    Backlit KB
    BlueTooth
    FingerPrintReader
Stock Wifi (Killer 1103 is sitting and waiting)
    Everything else stock

    Price: 2000$.

Do you think it's a good deal given the specs?

I currently have a M4600 with a SATA SSD. I'd like to buy an equally sized mSATA SSD and run in RAID-1. Does the RAID-controller in the M4600 support this configuration (after setting the appropriate BIOS-settings, obviously)

Hello, I am new to this forum. I am searching for a new laptop and have been shopping Lenovo Thinkpad W series and the Dell Precision series. I can get a Lenovo W 520/530 (with university employee discount) for $1200.00-1300.00 with core i7 and, SSD. I can get the M4600 with core i7, full HD, 128 GB SSD + 750 GB HDD, upgraded wireless, no bloatware at all, + more for ~$2000.00. I have noticed that the site I get directed to as a university employee allows far more customization options than the normal website.

I would like the opinions of anyone who has experience with either one or both of these machines. I will be pulling the trigger very soon!

I'd grab a basic RAM/HDD config and only upgrade the CPU to i7-2760QM. The rest can be upgraded down the road. You can probably get it for ~1300$
