Coz I see quite a few ppl on this forum admitting that they have done so and proudly stating their successes. I learned this "trick" from reading a haggling guide in notebookreview forum. so... I understand why you may despise such action, but I did what I did because of what this forum taught me and guess I simply have a slight lower ehtical standard than you do :D. Perhaps you could head over and find out who wrote the guide and question his justification of writing such "unethical" guide. In the end, you can say what you want about it, but to me this was worth a shot after all.

    Nice justification.

Dell did nothing wrong, yet you try to exploit them even when they deliver to your needs.

Haggling with reps / getting compensation for delays in shipping and wrong components is one thing, threatening to return to extort money out of them and blatantly trying to justify it is another.

    Have it your way, ;)

Theora, I assume that was reffered to me. Thanks, but seems it didn't help. I get constatnt shut downs after each reboot. It could be tha 1866Mhz ram i just installed, will test the different stick tomorrow)

Backlit issue solved: i just have non-backlit KB, thought all M4600/M6600 comes with it as standart. Was wrong(

Please I need some help. I want to swap the WLED screen of my M4600 by either an IPS panel or good TN RGBLED AUO B156HW01 v.4. Did anyone try to do this before? Apparently Dell uses two different boards depending on whether the screen is IPS or WLED which may exclude the IPS option. Which connector do the WLED panels have, 50 pin (dell propietary) or standard 40 pin?

I understand your point, and I did get this slight itch of guilt when I was deciding whether I should call, but heck the possibility of getting 100 back got the better of me. It was kind of an interesting experience too lol.

Grab one off ebay if you really want backlighting and do the swap yourself, assuming it's plug-and-play. Since ram is user-serviceable and you can only get to two banks through the keyboard I think it should be fine (hang on to your stock parts).

Where will you even get the display? hope one's on ebay?

That's your conscience. whether you decide to listen to it or justify it with an excuse, chances are you should stick to your conscience. I thought about the price of a laptop and markup for things like this (electronics are marked up a lot, generally speaking), and it feels justified to see about grabbing some discount when Dell's sales tactics seem less than ethical sometimes, but you gotta admit, they seem to have made one hell of a unit and for the price you pay you *should* and I read that you actually get stellar service. next-day repairs in your home?
    c'mon...
Even at minimum wage, one repair plus expenses has to take a lot on Dell's part for that technician, and you can bet they are paid much higher than minimum wage to go to people's houses and cater to their broken computers and their complaints.
Not to crush your spirits, just move on and learn if you feel guilt, take from it what you can. I would shortly consider the same money-saving tactic simply because Dell's online selection system has pissed me off a few times in the past (before I knew about phone ordering), but thinking on it realistically and ethically, I wouldn't do it.

By the way, how the heck did you back out of the return??

Yes, I would get the AUO part from Ebay, but I'm not so sure about where to get the IPS panel from assumed it's compatible with WLED M4600. I may ask Dell to sell one to me .

Seems like the problem was with the ram. With 1866Mhz sticks (tried slots A,D,C,D) it just doesn't want to reboot without shutting down, weird. 2Gb 1333Mhz stock RAM reboots just fine.

Also, i've noticed a high pitch sound with plugged in headphones or speakers. Does anyone have that?

It is not a problem to buy proper panel. The problem sie WLED is not compatible with IPS.

    Similar question.

That is necessary for changeover of the standard screen by ips RGB LP156WF3:

    1) Whether motherboards of standard dell m4600 and with ips a panel differ. (for example dell m6600 ips has two lvds ips and no-ips plugs http://benyouhuifile.it168.com/forum/201202/29/181008vn1ff00yadk980xf.jpg) How many plugs have dell m4600 ips?

    2) Whether the special board is necessary? Somebody can can make a photo of interiors of dell m4600 with ips a panel.

    3) New cover?

    4) Whether there are still differences?

Why still there is no instruction on changeover of panels with a photo...
