It does sound low for the 9 cell. You might double check your Win7 power settings, or be sure something in the background isn't driving the CPU full speed.

I have been using my M4500 for a little over a week now. I use it at the office with the screen closed, using a docking station and large external monitor. At home, I use the laptop's screen, and haven't seen any problems with this at all.

I have a question for anyone who has added an SSD to their M4500. I'm planning to add an additional drive using the NewModeus media bay adapter. Here's the link. My goal is to use the SSD for running a database. I'll have the VM running off the SSD, so that all that activity is fast-- at this point, I'm really not worried about the speed of my Windows7 disk.

I've read some places that were talking about having to change bios settings, and such. Is this something that I"m going to be concerned with?

Is there any reason I should change my plans on putting the SSD as my secondary disk?

    Thanks--

funn you you should ask...dell ended up doing a system exchange. I got it today and did the set up, then put it in the dock (it is the dock where the monitor is mounted above the laptop so lid was closed) and it gave me the same screen issue again after just a couple hours.

We do this all the time with e6400/e6500's and never have a problem. All of the other precision laptops we have are used with the lid open. I am going to talk to our dell rep tomorrow and see whats going on...i'll be a little upset that i can't set up my desk like i wanted. But the dock and the laptop were on the same order so you would think they thought they worked together ok...possibly something dell has overlooked.

    I am running the i7 620, 4gb ram, 880 video card, 1366x768 resolution and a 128gb ssd on win 7x64 btw

If there is interest, i can keep posting the results...

    cheers

I think it would be interesting to continue hearing how things develop for you. It sounds like our systems are a little bit different, but I would hope it wouldn't make such a difference. I have the i7-720QM (quad core), 8G ram, 880M video card, Full HD (1920x1080) screen.

    New BIOS release A03

It looks more official than A02 so I hope the install issues are fixed.

I'm thinking about buying an m4500 with the full hd display, because it's brighter, got more wideangle view and better contrast then the 1366x768 display. But I would like to use the fullhd display for writing and surfing and so on in reduced resolution, if...well: If that looks not to awfull. Could someone make one or two screenshots for me: Fullhd display in reduced resolution=1360x768 pixel with some text on the display or/and with an explorer window? Would be very nice and help me to see if I'm making the right decision by choosing the fullhd display.

    Greetings from germany!

I'm happy to send you some screenshots since I have the full HD screen as well.

When I go into the screen resolution, I'm offered the following choices:
    • 1920x1080
    • 1680x1050
    • 1440x900
    • 1280x1024
    • 1280x800
    • 1280x720
    • 1024x768
    • 800x600

I took a series of screenshots, using the resolutions from 1280x900 up to the full HD. The browser and explorer window are the same size, and I've set my windows font size to be back to 100% (the default when I received it was 125%). I've attached them as links, so they don't make a huge page for everyone.

    The screen at 1280x800 resolution.

    The screen at 1440x900 resolution.

    The screen at 1680x1050 resolution.

The screen at full HD (1920x1080).

On the display itself, I can tell you that the fullHD can have text get a bit small sometimes, but I've found that I've adjusted pretty well to it (and love the additional real estate I've got for keeping additional windows open). I don't have the best eyesight anymore, and still don't really have that much problem with it.
