    Joining in guys.

Just placed an order for a nice used M4500. Hopefully it's a good copy.

i7-840QM, FX1800M, 1080p, and the usual bells and whistles.

So I read through the whole thread, but I am confused... So the ssd card that sits in the wwan slot, is that an msata or a different spec all together. Might be getting one of these soon to take me through my computer engineering classes, and would like to run 2 drives without sacrificing the DVD drive.

It should be mSATA if it's in the WWAN slot.

Ahhh ok, I checked on newegg to see if there was a different standard/interface type, and saw some 'mini-pcie (sata)' interface type ssds. They were super expensive for the storage amount, but I thought msata was a standard after the first gen core i series. If a regular msata works in the slot, that's awesome, and would fit better into my poor college student budget :)

    Hi everyone,

I'm having a strange issue with my m4500 - it shuts down immediately after I unplug it from mains, even though a battery is present (no amber lights, tested), even though it indicates being fully charged in win... Did anyone have a similar problems?

Not sure what could have caused this, the only thing I did recently was update to the latest version of bios, which I got from Dell's website.

Thanks in advance for any responses
    Konrad

    I have a question:

I have an M4500 with an i5 CPU and an E6520 with an i5 CPU. Would I be able to swap CPU's?

If so would I need a different HSF?

Should just have to swap CPUs. I think I remember hearing the HSF are different between chassis's.

Oops. Made a mistake in my OP.

The M4500 has an i5 dual core CPU
The E6520 has an i7 quad core CPU

If the i7 will run in the M4500, do I need to get the HSF for the M4500's with i7's, or did they all use the same HSF?

Hope that clears it up a bit, I was kind of tired when I made my first post.

That I need to know myself... Thought you were swapping in a faster i5 :p

I'm getting an i5 m4500 in a few days and will be ordering a fleabay i7 soon after that. Also, with the i7 (quad), has anyone had problems bumping to 16gb of ram?

Just looked on a third party parts reseller, looks like there is only one model HSF for the m4500. Until someone else chimes in with personal experience, I'd say the HSF is the same on the i7 and i5 models.
