I have the exact same problem. Have you found any way to solve this?

The thing is, I did not have this problem until I just recently updated my driver to the 2012.04.03 296.35 version. My other driver was 4 to 6 months old and I did not have any flickering problem. Is there a way to know what was my driver version back then? Also why isn't that getting fixed since everything was working perfectly with my old driver?

Hope you guys can help me with this one because I can't tolerate this and I am not under warranty.

    Thank you for your help

For me, light flickering and kind of interlaced lines was starting from upper right part of the screen when external display was attached to the computer and the display was set in clone or projector-only mode. After detaching external display the flickering and interlacing would remain for couple of hours no matter what I do, in bios, linux, windows any operating environment. Therefore, it was not problem of the driver or OS but the system problem.
It seams it appears only on the HD+ 1600x900 Samsung display but not on the FHD or HD or LG HD+ screens.
Since I have 3yr dell premier gold warranty, they tried everything, they only didn't try to change type of processor (720QM) or graphic card (1800M) so these might be the issue also. Finally they concluded its a system problem of M4500 with HD+ screen and they gave me the new M4600.
But yours problem seams to be generated with the change of driver. Try to see if the problem is generated with other OS, for example linux booted from CD. If not, than it probably can be solved more easier with different graphic driver.

The problem seems to have gone away when I installed the oldest possible drivers - "8.17.12.5922, A08" (259.22 from Dell). At least I can't cause it the way as I did before, but lately I stopped using it so I didn't do much testing. Right now I am thinking about what should I tell them to start looking into my issue again, I don't like a solution which requires me to use an old driver.

I heard from Dell that they are testing a BIOS fix for similar problem for when there is 4 GB RAM (or more?), but the same person told me to install AMT HECI drivers (on board with AMT disabled) and P2 BIOS patch over A10 (which is impossible), so I am not sure of this information accuracy.

nicnad, what us your system configuration (CPU, GPU, screen)?

Well, I like to see my text without changing OS settings. Maybe it can be corrected that way, I'm just used to having everything work on defaults. And usable graphics size in Photoshop, with smaller pixel size it would be difficult to say how an image would look on common screen.

I'm a bit confused by the possible memory configurations... When I ordered my M4500, the local DELL site only offered up to 2x4GB RAM. The US site offered a 2x8 GB option, which was totally out-of-reach for people without their own oil-well in their backyard. :) (doubled the total price if I remember right)

Now I checked the local DELL site to see what they offer for memory upgrades currently, and for what price. Planned to do that regularly to possibly hit the sweet spot in pricing for the upgrade. But under M4500 I only get upto 4GB modules. On the other hand, if you follow M4600 product selection they HAVE 8GB modules. (for around $150 per module) Thing is: they seem to have the same specs as one of the type of 4GB modules that are available for the M4500 (??). So on the surface it looks like those 8GB modules for the M4600 would also function in the M4500 (?). Can anyone shed light on this? Or offer other examples of 8GB modules that work reliably?

edit: just noticed the US site offers the 8GB for $124 per module... Any comments/experiences?

    Upgrading Precision M4500 to 16GB

    Hello,
Has anyone managed to successfully upgrade their m4500 to 16GB, even though Dell says the max is 8GB? On checking out sites such as Newegg and Crucial, there are modules they recommend for 16GB, indicating that this is doable. However I purchased recommended memory from Newegg, and been unsuccessful so far.

The memory is recognized within the BIOS, but the system does not boot. The Windows Log-on screen comes up briefly, then it flashes a blank white screen for a few seconds, then goes to the “Windows Error Recovery” Screen, and then gives the option to “Launch Startup Repair.”

It launches the repair, but after a few minutes, for the second time, flashes that same white screen again, and reverts to the “Windows Error Recovery” Screen. This two-step sequence repeats, constantly looping.

The issue does not appear to be the memory, because two identical sets of memory behave in the same manner. It's running Windows Professional 7 64-bit, and the latest BIOS is in.

Have switched memory slots, and also put in each 8GB individually – still same results.

Have had a look at the BIOS to locate the Memory Timings settings just in case, but have not found an option that allows access in the BIOS.

It's looking like I have to send the memory back. So has anyone successfully put in 16GB, and if so, what memory was put in?

    Thanks!

Hi guys. I wanna ask you. Is it possible to buy somewhere rubber feets, which are from the bottom side of M4500? Or how to paste it back. Cause it was pasted with some special glue I guess. I'll be happy for any advices. Thanks a lot.

Could anyone answer this? I'm close to buying 2x8 GB myself... Anyone out there actually successfully using 16GB in an M4500? One more confusing thing is that apparently the Intel specs for (even) the quadcore CPUs state a limit of 8GB RAM supported???

Other question: I'm thinking about buying an external HD-dock. It's a model with eSATA connector, and you can plug in two 2"5/3"5 disks at the same time. This is advertized as enabling PC-independent "push-a-button" disk copying, but in the manual it also states that the two disks in the dock can be accessed at once via eSATA from your PC, provided the eSATA controller in your PC has an eSATA port multiplier.

Is this the case for the internal eSATA port and/or for the eSATA port on the dockingstation of the M4500? I'm not so much interested in the disk copy-function, so if it would turn out that I can use only one disk at a time, I would go for a model with a single dock...

I'm thinking of buying a refurbished M4500 to replace an Asus G1Sn which has been manfully recording (screen capture) live webcam streams 24/7 for the last 18 months but is now showing the strain. I like the look of the M4500 because the graphics card is supposed to suit video editing, plus I need an HD display, and I do not want separate number keys.

One review of the M4500 said that it overheats quickly, could owners please give an opinion on this, and is there anything else I should know?

On the subject of maximum RAM - I entered the Precision M4500 into Crucial's RAM finder and was presented with a pair of 8GB sticks @ £50-something, they didn't offer anything else

And now I have found this:
