Has anyone found that fast-action video is somewhat choppy on the M4500? The video quality is much worse than my much older M1530, so I find myself going back to my old computer for movies. I'm not sure if trying other video drivers (I'm using an nVidia one) or codecs might help (though it doesn't appear to be specific to any one application).

I have no problems with playing video on my M4500... have you tried updating video codecs and nVidia drivers? The only thing I can think of that may lag is 1080p video in H264. I had never encountered any problems with 720p movies, and got one 1080p that lagged. My processor is i5-540M (2,53 GHz).

Have you tried I8kfanGUI? It worked on my Latitude E6500.

What exactly does Precision ON button do? I tried to find a manual on Dell's web site and it does not have any info on it (besides saying what this button is called). When I tried to turn the laptop on with that button it said that there is no "Reader" installed and proceeded with normal loading.

you need to have a special card installed. it is basically a card with a complete ARM system on it, that boots linux. so you get instant boot and like 20 hours battery life. you can browse the web, check email, and thats about it i think.

20 hrs? That's pretty impressive... I thought that the screen was drawing the most power, not the other hardware.

Question for those of you who use docking station: how common is the problem with heat damage to the screen when the laptop is docked? A couple of people mentioned here that they had this problem, I wonder how prevalent is it and if I should even bother using the docking station if I don't absolutely have to.

And, in general, are you satisfied with the reliability of your m4500? I always thought business laptops (whether HP, Dell, or Lenovo) were pretty reliable, but now that I read this thread, I'm wondering...

that board basically makes the laptop a smartphone with a big screen. laptops have a huge battery, so if you imagine a phone with a battery the size of a laptops....you get the idea

the CPU is 35w (45w quadcore) and the GPU is 45w (iirc).
