    Did you solve this?

I have the same problem, same memory from crucial. Same pattern of behaviour. I have tested the memory, and it is fine, I have been on the phone to crucial and the spec of the RAM is correct, The BIOS recognises the RAM correctly. All of which would seem to indicated a problem with windows 7 64bit
    I am perplexed.
    I have tried the reinstall.

    Any suggestions are welcome

    I installed this as well.

First thing I noticed is the Smart Settings component of the feature pack seems to conflict with the official Dell Touchpad driver (posted on Dell's web site).

When Smart Settings is running, the touch pad behavoir reverts to a standard PS/2 compatible mouse; the special UI which allows for Dell touchpad settings is missing.

Turn off Smart Settings, don't allow it to launch at startup, and the Dell touchpad works as it should.

Might be a cockpit error on my part, but who has time to study the poor user interface or read the manual? Gee wiz.

I have been using two GSkill F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ modules for a total of 8 GB in an M4500 equipped with an i7 720QM and running Win 7 x64 for a while without any issues. These are 9/9/24 DDR3's.

This is a data point, not a recommendation.

My DELL touch pad setting are working fine with FEP installed, you might want to try re-installing the trackpad driver files and see what happens.

I've been using the Nvidia 270.61 since they were released, all seems well with that driver and i'm going to stick with it. If that offers any advice.

I was using that driver and had some problems with the screen of my monitor not awakening. I just reinstalled the same driver and it fixed the problem. All that to say I think that driver is fine but may get screwed up with the Windows updates etc. I am not running any of the Dell bloat-ware.

Does anyone know whether it is possible in principle, an indeed in practice, to put 16 GB of RAM into an M4500? Does it depend on the particular processor/motherboard?

I think all models of m4500 regardless of the processor you picked support 2x 8GB modules. The only problem is that I haven't been able to find 8gb sticks that aren't a fortune to purchase. Let me know if you know where to buy them.
