I just got a Displayport-to-HDMI cable and watched a movie on my TV. I experienced about 6 temporary drop-outs of video and sound on the TV - maybe about 5 seconds each. The laptop screen was unaffected.

I'm hoping that this is just a wonky cable, and not indicative of a problem with the computer. I think I'll try getting an HDMI-to-Displayport adapter so that I can use it with my old HDMI-to-HDMI cable that worked fine for hooking up my M1530 to the TV.

Anyone else experience issues like this? I have read that some people have had issues from the Dell ControlPoint software. For example, I do get a quick "blink" on my laptop screen about 30 seconds after logging into Windows. But never again after that...

    Anvil,
How do you like the W510? I have no experience with Lenovo and am considering the 510 or Dell M4500

Ok, so mine is in production... Estimated delivery time nov 29th. Lots of waiting ahead, lol.

I'm definitely considering to order that harddisk-bay that fits in the optical drive slot. I was wondering how "hot-swappable" that is, if at all? I suppose it is not possible to remove and replace it by the optical drive when the laptop is powered up? But is it workable to swap them before booting up? I would use the hard disk in that slot exclusively for mass storage anyway (so everything should work if I boot up without it), and make ISOS of most optical media that I need. So I could work like that, and not need the extra cable to connect the optical drive externally.

    All,
Is it possible to run two external monitors AND the laptop screen with this laptop? I'd like to run CAD on one monitor and Bluebeam on the second. As for the laptop screen, I'd like to use it for tool pallets, email, etc.
    Thanks for your help.

Does the displayport transmit in full hd? So I can stream something in 1080p on Youtube to my tv and keep 1080p?

    CPAM,
Why the 510? Price, service, heat issues? I like the 510's docking station better and the fact that it has 4 dimm slots. One has to wonder about the quality of the build. The dell I can pobably get a little cheaper thru a friend. I also like the fact that Lenovo has a USB3 port.
Shame Dell markets high end then skimps on popular needs.

    Guys,

Joining the forum with a pretty standard rig, but noting the i7 processor temp runs at about 50-60 degrees centigrade... I have had this series before including M2300, M60, M70 and M90, but never saw them this hot.

    Is this normal?

Blast furnace coming out left side....

    Otherwise happy with performance.

yes, i series are the hottest running cpu's I can remember since P4's were used in some notebooks, and I only have an i5-540m.Not impressed with it at all.

Luckily we have an excellent cooling system in the M4500.

It's completely hot swappable. I leave the HD in most of the time, but I've pulled it out and put in the optical drive many times while the laptop is running.
