I got my info from a thread in which I asked about laptops with the best screens. M4500 was listed as being one of those with the RGB LED, guess it must of just been the hype.

I'm looking for a laptop with a nice display. Looks like the high end stuff is out of the question due to price point, was hoping to get a DELL RGB. I guess that may not be an option.

That dead horse was beaten very early in this thread. RGBLED, despite what everyone read when they first came out, isn't offered. It was initially offered and then Dell pulled it. If you want RGB, you have to jump for the M6500.

I have pulled a drive on an M4500 that came with a drive in the bay, so I know what that looks like, but not one that came with the SSD Mini PCIe only option. I am considering ordering one that way and ordering a drive for 3x less elsewhere. How does the bay come in that case? Normally the bay cover attaches to the HDD and the HDD attaches directly to the bottom of the chassis. (For those that want a visual: Documentation) So without the drive is there just a bracket in it's place? I.E. Bay cover attaches to the bracket and the bracket attaches to the chassis. No need for extra screws or a different bay cover? Thanks in advance.

If you buy an M4500 with only the SSD minicard, it will arrive with a "placeholder" in the drive bay. The placeholder is basically a metal frame the size of a laptop hard disk that screws into the same places a hard disk would screw into. Because of this, everything you need to have to install a hard drive is present.

Will do my critical photo editing work on external panel yet wonder whether anyone has finally calibrated display and can share some specs? Or point me to a professional review showing color gamut, DeltaE, etc.

Primarily interested in the 1600 x 900 WLED panel.

Also some have wondered about laptop panels (in general, nothing specifically about 4500) whether Dell uses different panel mfg for "the same" model which is sold in different countries. If I buy my unit will be purchased from Dell USA. Dell can certainly drive one a bit crazy with their lack of clear and accurate info. The earlier posts in this thread about RGB panels and 4500 being a good example.

    Much thanks

I'm interested in swapping out the hard drive for an intel x-25m. Will this fit?

Well I just ordered a Mushkin Calisto Deluxe SSD drive as my main drive to swap out my Seagate HDD. I will let everyone know how it goes. I work in the film industry and media production world so I am hoping that pairing this with my esata raid will boost my programs performance and just make the system all the more snappy.

Does anyone know what brand memory Dell is using in the 16GB systems? I would like to speck out what it cost 3rd party... as its $4800 from dell which is twice what I paid for my M4500 total.

Is there a setting that I can turn on that shows me on the screen what I am doing with regards to the dimming, volume, and backlight FN keys? I can't tell if my screen or keys are on backlight or not.

You should get an On-screen display when you press the keys to change those settings. However, I find that sometimes the OSD doesn't appear.

Perhaps you need to enable the notifications in DCP. Press Fn+F7 to enter DCP then select Display Settings and make sure that the various Notification settings are selected.

If DCP (Dell ControlPoint) does not appear then check that Dell ControlPoint System Manager is installed.
