So is the M4500 not capable of passing out an HDMI signal via DisplayPort?

My understanding is that it is called DP++ when HDMI via DisplayPort is possible, and that there should be a DP++ logo beside the port if this is the case.

Yes the M4500 can pass, with the correct adapter, video and audio from DP to HDMI.

The M4500 most definitely does support HDMI. Mine worked just fine, video and audio, using the Dell adapter. The output on the M4500 IS labelled DP++.

You should be able to use just about anybodies adapter as far as I can tell. It is a standardized passive adapter, not something Dell cooked up for this machine.

Read the Wikipedia article on Displayport for more info:

Do people have recommendations for 8GB ram upgrades for the M4500? I can only find some disparaging comments about the G.Skill modules... tia

Which of the m4500's processors are supported by the "turbo boost" driver? I've skipped this driver on my machine since I figured it didn't apply to me. I thought that it read only for the dual core processors.

That driver applies to the dual core i7 620M, for example, but does not apply to your quad core 820. I doubt the setup utility would install it on an 820.

It is important to follow the dell guide if you are having problems. I tried a plain vanilla windows 7 install and had several issues, but then followed the reimage guide to the letter and my M4500 has been bulletproof since. Windows 7 does not include all the drivers etc that you need.
