My hardware list doesn't say I have the Precision On, but mine has the button. How do I find out if I have it and, after my fresh install, what do I need to do now to make it work?
    Thanks,
    Jesse

I believe they all have the button, which if you don't have Precision ON, will instead try to boot into the Precision On Reader. Precision ON is a physical device that fits inside your laptop. The M4500 is unique among laptops that I've owned in that you can take off the whole bottom panel and you have access to just about everything removable. If you download the manual for the M4500, it will show you where the Precision ON flash is installed. Open your laptop and you'll see whether it's there or not.

However, if your hardware list says you don't have it, then it would be pretty surprising if you have it.

I'm interested in an M4500 with the 64g minicard SSD and plan to add a second drive myself after receipt. Dell lists two versions of the minicard SSD. The only one it will let me order as a single drive is the "64GB Solid State Minicard Drive for systems with only a 64G minicard storage drive". If I order this minicard drive, will I be able to install my own second drive?

    TIA,

    Mike

That's precisely what I did. So yes, it works.

Note: This is a passive adapter. While DisplayPort connectors are capable of passing an HDMI signal, DisplayPort and HDMI signals are basically different and not compatible with each other. This adapter does not actively convert a DisplayPort signal into an HDMI signal. In order for this adapter to function properly, you must have a DisplayPort source device capable of producing and passing out an HMDI signal through the DisplayPort jack.

Please let us know the process you use to order this part from Dell. The Dell people I've spoken with will not sell me the card.

Perhaps I misunderstood you. You can purchase an M4500 in two configurations with an SSD:

    • 64GB Solid State Minicard Drive for systems with only a 64G minicard storage drive
    • 64GB Solid State Minicard Drive for systems with dual storage drives

I bought my M4500 in the former configuration ("with only a") and when I received it I added a hard drive that I purchased myself. From what others are saying, Dell doesn't seem to offer the SSD minicard for sale by itself.

The question should have gone to Mike_75024, sorry for the confusion.
