OK so it is here. Original post below.

The display looks good, but does not have me drooling.......
Device Manager -> Monitor -> Properties, shows "Monitor\LGD018F"

On the order details it shows - 320-6997 Black Wide Screen WUXGA for Latitude M4400

    and

320-7020 15.4 inch Wide Screen WUXGA LCD for Mobile Precision M4400

But I guess I am more concerned with the monitor properties and knowing if this is in fact the RGB LED display. Any body know what the monitor properties would show for the RGB LED?

@Thomas N: Unfortunately I don't know what it should say in the display properties, but after following this thread since the beginning and watching the Dell configuration page, I do know that Dell has added the RGBLED screen for purchase (price=$299). That said, I think it is likely that you received the 2CCFL display (as opposed to the RGBLED).

    Thomas N,
I don't think your lcd is rgbled. If you go to the Dell US website, the rgbled option is $299 more. I believe the one you ordered is $149 more, correct? If you configure the rgbled option, you will find out the part number for the rgbled screen is 320-6998.

Yea, that is what i was thinking all along, but I believed what the Dell rep was telling me, or wanted to believe. The other big observation that just occured to me is that this display is anti-glare (AG) and the RGB-LED is tru-life which is glossy. I am not a fan of glossy screens, but if it will do 100% ARGB then I will have to deal with the gloss.

I ordered a couple of days before the RGB LED option became available on the configure site, but the rep assured me it was the RGB-LED.

So I am dialing the phone for Dell as I type.

The RGBLED on the M4400 configuration page is not a 'truelife' display - and I have been led to believe that it is indeed a matte screen.

I would definately call Dell and tell 'em to provide a RGBLED display as promised! - Even if it only cost you 150 $ extra (mine was like 460 $ extra hehe..) - you should STILL get a RGBLED display if the rep promised you that.
..and.. the truelife RGBLED display for M4400 is a mistake (as i understood it..) the RGBLED displays of the M4400 should only be in matte.

also.. my display is described as "Display : 15.4in Widescreen WUXGA (1920X1200) Antiglare with RGB LED" .. also if your part number is 320-6997 and the RGBLED one is 320-6998, you have most likely gotten the CCFL2 one.

Hope you get your RGBLED dsiplay! - and congratz on your new M4400 :)

Update.....so I am returning the notebook to Dell and an order has been placed with the correct display option.

The RGB LED is a bit more expensive, but Dell kindly reduced the additional amount by $100 US for my hour long phone call to sort this out and they are expediting the new order and shipping it overnight.

I will also add that the 2CCFL display that I received in error is actually a very nice display.....once I profiled it with GretagMacbeth's Eyeone display.

Of course I was just making visual comparisons based on my NEC 2690 display as a reference and anything visual is subjective, but the 2CCFL display is not too bad of a display. It is way, way better than the HP nx7400 (168x1050) that I also own. The HP notebook is useless for any color critical work. It fails miserably for that use.

The build quality and finish of the M5500 is much nicer than the HP and this was a high-end HP.

The M4400 2CCFL display really needed to be profiled though. Before profiling it I could tell that the colors were off by a noticeable margin. It is not spot on like the NEC 2690, but for a notebook display it is very good.

Anyway, I will report back when I receive the new, correct M4400 with RGB LED screen. I almost decided to just scrap Dell and get the Sony AW series 18.4 with LED RGB, but it was more money and too large, I also considered the 6400, but it was right at $1000 more than the 4400 so I whimped out on spending that much more.

Good to hear you fixed it out Thomas!
In my opinion any screen should be calibrated - most screens are be factory setting WAY too blue to do color critical work on. I use the Pantone Huey Pro and it gets the job done very nicely - i remember seeing a huge difference on my WLED display of my previous E6500 after calibrating it properly.

I also considered the Sony AW.. but it's not shipping with danish keyboard, doesn't have backlit keyboard, too large a screen and well.. it's pretty expensive hehe. - but as a desktop replacement i think it would be great..

Please keep us updated when you get your new display! :)
