I actually dug through all of the bios options...but I'll go through all of that again.

I know it's a bit slower but it saves me the hassle of having to type the passwords everytime

Audio works well out of the box, better than XP actually as you don't have to disable the onboard speakers to get good external sound

VMware isn't free as far as I know,is it?.....send me the license fee and I'll give it a whirl so you feel better.;)

I also want to see if Varicad on linux will be a viable alternative to Solidworks on XP/vista/windows 7..........OK?

Looked through all of the options in the Bios and ticked the relevant ones. Still couldn't get it to work. Just wanted to utilize a "free" option of my laptop (didn't ask for but got it). The laptop was already given a one-over by a Dell tech which replaced the fingerprint sensor...but the same problem cropped up again. Anyway, will just deactivate it and use the good old fashioned password entry.

Just wondering if there is some software solution to this. Since in my opinion, the ETS is a bit of dodgy software.

Why aren't you asking dell through hardware chat for help if you haven't already? They solve almost ever issue I had.

What's the weight on the M4400 AC adapter?
Did you have the option to select 4GB Turbo RAM, if so did you get it?
Any negatives so far (heat, noise, etc.,)?

Thanks. By the way nice pics of your M4400.

I'm seeing price differences of ~$400 between otherwise similar M6400 and M4400 configurations.

    But the M6400 + adapter is 11 lbs !

Don't yet know how the M6400 and M4400 compare with respect to fan noise and heat...
