Yeh... that's gonna get toasty for sure. Im jealous, I have the T9550 and 4 gigs of ram. I might upgrade to 8 gigs when I get windows 7. Are you actually utilizing that much processing power? I have yet to get into a situation where the processor wasn't enough. Minus rendering complicated scenes in Maya, but I don't think Id use a notebook for rendering anyways.

I run VMWare Workstation on Ubuntu. I am hoping that with 8GB RAM, Quad Core and 3 spindles (utilising the eSata port) that I can run up to 8 good sized VMs well. Will be interesting to see. :)

 well I guess that would do it. hahaha, your essentially running 9 operating systems off one notebook. Crazy guy, Forget the notebook cooler. You might want to just place it on top of some dried ice :p Im jking you should be fine with the cooler, but I would def not run all those VM's for any duration without it.

I do a lot of software evaluation for work and travel all over the shop. Need some grunt to keep working on the road.

Bought the cooler from an Australian retailer. Cost me $98 though :-(

    hey waldo,

    i got a similiar setup
qx9300, 8gb ram and 2x 320gb - though only the 770m (i had the 1700 for a short amount of time in the system, didn't really show any difference in heat or speed).

but the system definately gets hot under load. actually the processor is for sure downclocking as the cooling system can't handle the generated heat.
    kinda sad but true

Thanks Gordon nice to know. Hopefully the cooler will make a difference. The reviews all seem to say that the cooler keeps the heat at happy levels under load. Will find out when the unit actually arrives :)

Is anybody using this or another cooler in combination with a docking station (E-dock)? If so, any pics? I wonder how they match together (size-wise).

I am using the NZXT cooler with the E-Port Plus dock. It certainly isn't a perfect match. I had the cooler long before I got the dock, so it was only recently that I had deal with it.

I am traveling right now and can't post pictures.

Basically the dock hangs off the back of the cooler by 3 or 4 inches. If I never took my computer off the dock, I'd probably have left it alone. But if that was the case, I'd probably not have a laptop...

I made platform out of wood that rests behind the cooling pad to support the over-hanging portion of the dock. All weight is supported and it works fine.

Definitely not an out-of-the-box match, but I don't mind an excuse to kick up saw dust now and then. I can post pictures later if you'd like.

Well the delivery date has blown out again. Now 15th of October. Not bad for an order placed on the 4th of August.

At least I am past the "work in progress" stage now. Further than I have managed to get so far :)
