lol. Ugh. Ok off topic really quick. I want a tv tuner for this laptop. I'll spend up to and around 100 bucks. But, I don't want it to pick up only over the air free tv. If I plug in my cable from college I want this to pick up all the channels a regular tv would. Any suggestions... please?

What does it mean when it says this?
"TV Tuner: ATSC / ClearQAM / NTSC"

Some say that it doesn't pick up QAM... is that like... cable I would get from my dorm?

EDIT: Okay. I've gone through about 2 hours of youtube videos and I think I picked up that QAM means my cable before it goes into my box.

Hm... Anyone have any recomendations... at all?

EDIT 2: Anyone think this will actually work?
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815260023

Like I said, in my dorms theres a coax cable that gets like 30 channels. I don't wanna buy a tv, so this should theoretically work... correct?

Can't help you there. Like you already said, it'll work with the laptop but if the tuner will do what you want to do with it....no idea. I don't have any experience with tv tuners...at all ;)

Maybe also put this question in the "hardware components and upgrades" forum as the tuner is the subject here, not really the laptop.

    good luck!

Yeah, thanks. I was basically just wondering if anyone here had a tuner they loved that worked well with this laptop...

So, in conclusion I bought 2 tv tuners. Whichever is best... I'll keep hen return the other one.

Alright, I know I asked for the ports before, but, What exactly are they. Before you listed a PC card slot but then I asked about some PCMIA and you said I have that lol.

Can you tell me the ports again "dimension6" told me this "If by "card reader", you mean Smart Card, then yes. If you mean SD Slot, then also, yes. If you mean PC Card and Express Card Slots, then once again yes."

What's a smart card? Like what usually goes in there? SD slot... for SD memory cards? PC card slot? PCMIA? What usually goes in there? Express Card? Is it just express card or does it have a number after it? What usually goes in there. I think in my sisters computer (old toshiba satellite) we bought a wireless card that went into... the express slot I think.

AH yes, the smart card :D Seems like the list of slots and ports never ends on this laptop eh? ;) The smart card is a creditcard sized slot which can be used for security mainly afaik. You can set your laptop to use the smartcard for verification of you as a user. Never used it myself though, if others know other uses for it please say so.

    sooo....you have a:

    -sd slot for memory cards
-pc card slot is indeed pcmcia
-pci-express is the newer version of pcmcia, faster connection and can be used for loads of different add-ons like, firewire, extra usb, modem, bluetooth, sound cards etc etc.
    -smart card for security use
    -3x usb for....usb ;)
-1x eSATA/usb....powered eSATA port for eSATA external drives, port can also be used as normal USB
    -mini firewire port
    -VGA for VGA
    -and Displayport
    -Ethernet
    -power plug
    -kensington lock thingy

lol....those are ALL things on the outside :D

    Thank you very much!

I'm gonna you off but, are you sure it's a kensington lock? On the website it says security cable lock... and I bought a security cable... so... as far as I know a kensington and a security cable lock are different. But, I'll find out 8/11 dell.com says. lol

I am experiencing buzzing and rattling sounds when the speaker sound is turned on 50% or more. The louder the volumn is turned up (above 50%), the more buzzing and rattling can be heard. Is this normal for this notebook (cheap speakers) or is there perhaps something wrong with the speakers on my new notebook?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Best regards.
