cos theres no point. you dont get any performance advantage, you get a slight battery life advantage (on a notebook like this you're taking 5-10 mins) and much much higher cost of buying DDR3...

So you really read the whole thread, that's... wow. Incredible. I stopped following the thread back when it reached page 120 or so, and instead started focusing on the smaller, more "distilled" conversations...

I don't remember which driver wouldn't install, I did install the Matrix Storage Manager/Driver, I am still having some latency issues with sound I might just breakdown and buy a Pro sound card with ASIO drivers (any suggestions would be great). I installed most of the drivers, barring the Wifi and the video drivers.

If you're just looking for a simple card, I'd *highly* recommend the Echo Indigo line. You can get them in either PC or Express card formats, with either 1in/1out or 2out configurations. Easy to set up, they've got a handy volume dial, and can stay plugged into your system.

I second dodeca's recommendation. I've used one for a while because i didn't have the spare cash to get a more feature filled soundcard like the e-mu 1616m i have now. The Echo card has always been trouble free and gives very high quality sound for the money you'll spend. Don't leave 'em plugged in while travelling though, like any other PCI-e or Cardbus card they'll snap pretty easily ;)

Easiest thing though would be to just install the IMSM driver...you don't even need too install the app, just load the driver manually through the device manager.

btw....nice monitor :D I have the 2709wfp, kinda got used to the size by now but still large enough.

    Ouch...
Well, I did the same last summer :), looking for the laptop that suits my needs best... I would've had chosen a Thinkpad, but unfortunately the build quality of the Thinkpads seemed to get worse and worse, so it was harder for me to figure out whether to pick the M4400 or the M6400 than it was to choose between Dell and Lenovo.
And I'm happy with my decision.
