Hm, the Broadcom package never really completed on my x64 system (16-bit installer??), so currently no drivers for the device. How were you able to deliver them into the proper folders?

Also, do you or anyone know what else I would need the USH software for exactly? I have no FP reader, and my PCMCIA Card Reader seems to work fine (used w/Micro SD Card & Adapter inserted).

Ordered mine on March 2 and today is still in production :(

The initial EDD was March 23 and now is March 27... I received an e-mail from Dell where they say that the reason for the delay is through lack of a component.

That'll do it... I had a similar delay with Lenovo when I bought my T61p in 2007. Sucks!

Have any other M4400 owners had trouble with their Alps touchpad? Mine cuts out or has tracking problems at sporadic intervals, it's easily the biggest annoyance about my new M4400. When it starts to have problems, it seems to continue to have them until I stop using it for a few seconds. As a software engineer, this behavior reminds me of what happens when a buffer fills up and input processing slows down or starts "skipping" because of it. I'm wondering if it's due to poorly written drivers, or if it might just be a fixable hardware problem. If nobody else notices this kind of thing with theirs, I'd have to guess the latter.

Btw, I've got the latest drivers installed. I've seen this same problem in Windows XP, Vista, and the Windows 7 beta.

The Unified Security Hub drivers are found within the Dell Controlpoint Security Manager software. Once this application is installed, the USH will be in working order.

If you are not a fan of bloatware but still want the USH functionality, you can choose to do a custom install of the Dell Controlpoint Security Manager. Once you run the installer, choose "custom install" and uncheck everything that is not driver related. Presto! You will have no more pesky exlamation! marks in the in the device manager and you will be able to update the Broadcom firmware to its latest version.

    Hope this info helps.
    Cheers!

Thanks that works! However, since I have no FP reader and don't use the Contactless Smartcard Reader, I will just keep the drivers/software uninstalled and stored just in case.

Ok, fair enough. If you choose to not install the drivers then, don't forget to go to the device manager and disable the USH peripheral (right-click on it and choose 'disable'). It's not an important step, but it will make sure that windows doesn't occasionally try to find and install a driver for that peripheral.

Alternatively, you can choose to turn off the USH in the Bios directly. I have not done this, but I think there is a toggle for it in there somewhere.

    Cheers!

Hi all, I've been having many problems with my m4400 and they said they would send me a new system however it would be refurbished. It is after my 30 days but I feel I should be getting a new system. Has anyone received a new system after dealing with issues. Did you get a new one or refurbished?

I know i got a new one but then again there weren't that many refurbs around when mine needed to be replaced. I'm not sure if they HAVE to give you a new system, probably not, but if you bought a new laptop iso a refurb and it hasn't worked like it should it seems logical you should receive a NEW laptop.

If you bought a refurb or scratch n dent however, you'll never get a new one
