Precision 7730,5530,7530 (Coffee Lake) pre-release

By the sounds of it there are only two HD slots which is not great for a machine like this. The FHD screen on the P72 may be slightly better than the 7730 as it covers 100% sRGB.

Both great machines, but I would take the 7730 any day of the week.

 

This old thread indicates:
Class 40 drives are 1500 MBps read / 350 MBps write (1500/350)
Class 50 drives are 2100 MBps read / 1200 MBps write (2100/1200)

Sensibly there should now be a class 60 to differentiate the current top performers but this recent discussion still stops at class 50. If you want the best then you have to buy it separately and pay accordingly but ask yourself whether you would notice the extra speed in your normal workflow. Personally, I'm still on SATA but the SSD (WD Blue) is 2TB as I prioritise capacity over raw speed but I'm watching the pricing of the 970 EVO.

Is the dell precision 7730 UHD panel 10-bit just as the P72 UHD Panel??

 

NO, 7730's AUO's 4k is 8 bit.
P72 is 10 bit, perhaps the same as HP G5's Dreamcolor screen. Perhaps made by Sharp, not sure yet.

 

Not sure how good QLC performs and lasts, but the new Intel 660p might be interesting as well. 2TB for 460€

Thanks for that info - faster than SATA at SATA pricing. I need to watch where the pricing goes once supplies improve. I would also need to find a reasonably priced NVMe to USB adapter before I put everything onto an NVMe SSD as I like to have a backup method of accessing the SSD should the computer have a problem.

Have you considered the WD Black 3D NAND drive? It performs equal to the 970 EVO, and draws noticeably less power. Right now, it's on a sale that undercuts the 970 EVO by $40...

I would never get one of these crazy things, but it does look like it is pretty much a 5530 that allows for the screen to be flipped all the way around.

Specs seem more limited...
Only two CPU choices, it uses the CPUs that have AMD graphics built-in.
Memory is capped at 16GB.
No option for two drives (M.2 + 2.5"), just a single M.2.
