Good for you to have onsite service. Can’t believe Dell’s quality on such a high-end workstation.

I just received my new Dell Precision 5530 with Intel i9-8950HK, Nvidia Quadro P2000, 1x16GB 2666MHz DDR4, ... I selected a Class 50 SSD (they wouldn't tell me exactly what it would be). It turned out to be a "SK Hynix PC400 NVMe 512GB". I'm not sure about this SSD. Earlier, I considered selecting the lowest price storage device then swapping it out with a known high-end SSD (Samsung 970). Any thoughts on what I got?

For those who already own a 5530, could you kindly post the full RAM specs (including CS) you got with the system? Thanks

Run CrystalDiskMark and post the results here. Some of the less well known brands can perform quite well. Hynix is a reputable memory brand but the SSD performance is likely to depend on what controller chip they have used.

I got a Toshiba and was pretty upset - after paying almost $1k extra - thinking of returning the unit and reordering so I can put in a Samsung 970 in myself...

I can't see out how to paste the screenshot of the results here, so I'll just type them...
    CrystalDiskMark 6.0.1 for Hynix PC400 512GB SSD
    Read (MB/s) Write (MB/s)
    Seq Q32T1 2586.9 1336.9
    4KiB Q8T8 1019.0 447.6
    4KiB Q32T1 333.0 449.9
    4KiB Q1T1 41.81 100.7

Where would I go to see how this compares to others?

This review includes data for several SSDs. Also look at http://www.thessdreview.com/ and https://www.anandtech.com/tag/ssd.

You've got good, but not class leading, read speeds with write speeds somewhat lower (but much faster than SATA). The write performance may not be significant unless you do a lot of writing of large files.

    Thank you John.

Do these results fit into Dell's "Class 50"? Dell doesn't make it easy to know what the specs are for each class.

I found a Dell support page stating that the Hynix PC401 is Class 40. I would guess that PC400 and PC401 would be in the same Dell Class. On the Hynix website, PC401 seems to be the top Hynix ssd in this form factor.
