This is unfortunately the way Dell has operated for close to 10 years now. They used to let you fully configure your options, now you are forced into their "bundles". it is still worlds better with the Precisions than it is on the consumer side, look at how you are forced to buy Alienwares.

These aren't arbitrary restrictions. Quadro P3200 and up requires the larger battery in order to handle the power draw while on battery power and placing the GPU under load. And the larger battery and 2.5" SATA drive occupy the same physical space. It is unfortunate, but given how the system is designed, no way around it.

/@Aaron44126 I ordered the smallest PCIe, which is 256GB. I noticed there are 3 PCIe slots available in total so plenty of space

I also ordered a USB stick with Windows 10 from DELL, but that was not included in the box...

On a different note, if you want to install a fresh copy of Windows you will need a proper mouse, the touch-pad won't work.

To be honest everything feels cheap, plastiky. Only the top is something else, carbon fiber?

My 7530 just arrived! Here's a quick Fire Strike run with the i7-8750H and P3200.

    Max CPU temp: 90C
    Max GPU temp: 63C

P3200 performance is on par with a 1060.

Keyboard definitely feels different. I think I like the old one on the 7510 better - was more snappy. Trackpad material is a step-up, feels slicker. Speakers are a massive improvement as well. I unfortunately have a tiny spot on my display - looks like a speck of dust inside the LCD or something. It's not a dead pixel though, so I might live with it. I suppose I have time to figure that out.

Fans get pretty loud. Love the new design - very sharp.

Might be time for an owner's lounge eh?

    Edit:

Here's the timings info on the 8GB module:

The Quadro P3200 does not need the larger battery to work. The smaller battery lasts 2/3 of the time the larger battery would do. So for example 4h and 6h (I don't know if there are any official numbers out yet). It should be up to me to decide whether the shorter time is OK for me or not. I'm not planning to cause high gfx load while on battery. So the restriction for the P3200 is nonsense and there should be no difference compared to the P2000.

The OEM has no idea what you're planning while on battery.

Just like you assert it should be up to you to decide, it's up to them to decide what option bundles to sell.

We get it, you don't like the options. Your opinion and preference have been clearly stated.

The TDP of the P3200 is 50% higher, so Dell probably wants to provide roughly the same base battery life for both configs (by forcing a 50% larger battery).

More likely their decision is related to power draw rather than battery life. 9-cells can provide 50% more current at a given time than 6-cells meaning at a fixed voltage, 50% more power available.
