Check and see if "hybrid sleep" is enabled or not. It's in advanced power options, I believe. Hybrid sleep lets the system transition from sleep mode to hibernate mode after a certain period of time... Something might be getting messed up there.

Hybrid sleep was enabled. Good catch. I disabled it now in advanced settings. My other settings regarding hibernation were all disabled. I do think it was somehow messed up regarding hibernation.

I also noticed I'm out of date on these drivers so I may update them to latest this weekend too:
Intel-Rapid Storage Tech Driver and f6 driver.
    Dell wlan radio switch driver,
Intel 8260 wifi and bluetooth drivers
asmedia usb extended host controller (not sure if I need that unless I had a thunderbolt or wd dock, which I don't)
    Dell Power Manager

Just a heads up. My hybrid sleep and hibernation have always been turned off, and I still occasionally get the sleep crash bug. Hopefully you'll have more luck with it than I.

By the way, do you have Dell Command Update installed? It should compile all the updates together for you.

Thanks. I don't have dell command update but I may download and try it - or perhaps subscribe to the CAB files with bundle of patches realeased quarterly(?). Currently I just download driver updates manually.

Edit: Still working as it should when waking from sleep after undocking and arriving at my other destination where I run undocked and just off the ac adapter. Fingers crossed.

Edi2: It woke from sleep properly again yesterday evening after reconnecting it to the ePort dock. And it woke again this morning after removing it from the dock while asleep and reopening the lid without the dock. I think it was disabling the hybrid that fixed it, but I also updated all drivers that were listed in my previous post. So I'm unsure if it was from disabling the hybrid or the updated drivers. I say that because the first time after disabling the hybrid I intentionally shutdown and rebooted, then put to sleep and when I woke it, it rebooted from hibernation image instead of waking from sleep ram. Then I updated all those drivers and since then it is waking from sleep properly. It may have been that it took a reboot or two after disabling hybrid for that change to take affect or it may be that it was combination of disabling hybrid and updating my drivers. Whatever the fix was, it seems to be working fine now. Thanks.

I've been snooping around Power Options and managed to find something called "hibernate after" in the "sleep" section. It was set to hibernate after 180 minutes on battery, so I turned that off. Hibernate was disabled anyway, but just to be safe.

I was very close to contacting Dell Support about this issue, but it hasn't happened to me in a while and hopefully won't in the future.

Anyone with the 7710 get the Fall Creators Update offered through Windows update. I got it on my Surface Pro and Precision 7910 but no on my 7710. Also never got the spring creators update on two XPS 8700.

Just wondering why not offered yet on the 7710.

The Fall Creators Update is currently in staged rollout... It is not showing up for everyone yet... You'll have to ask Microsoft about this. They generally roll such updates out for everyone after about three or four months, in the meantime, there are other ways to upgrade manually if you want to get it sooner.

Just to add to what Aaron44126 said. I manually updated my M6600 to the Falls Creators Update about two weeks ago and everything went well (so far). I doubt that the 7710 would have problems, but upgrading manually is a decision only you can make.

Just updated to the major Windows Creator's thing. So far so good. I had initial problems with BatteryBar, but that fixed itself in a few minutes. Rivatuner complained a little and begged to be restarted but seems to work.

The big news though is that the crashing when asleep bug is still happening. I'm seriously considering going to Dell Support with this issue. Anyone have a fix yet?
