For some reason, my 7710 occasionally shuts down when I close the lid. Sometimes, the sleep works, but other times I open the lid and it's turned off. Is anyone else having this issue? I've updated through Windows Update and Dell Command Update already.

I had this problem a few months ago too and solved it. Then it started happening again about a week or two ago.

My solution both times was to do a RESTART then after it rebooted, SHUTDOWN, then startup, then shutdown again for good measure and startup again. Then waking from sleep began to work normally again.

See if that doesn't fix it for you too.

This issue of it rebooting when waking from sleep first started occurring on my 7710 after I had been playing around with the "Turn on fast startup" features in windows. That feature, when checked, basically enables a type of hibernation mode so that when you "shutdown" it stores some things (I don't know what it stores) in hibernation files so that those things won't have to reload at startup next time... theoretically allowing for a faster boot up.

I unchecked that feature one day but later, for some reason, I decided check-marking the box again. The next day is when I noticed my laptop would no longer awake from sleep but instead reboot. I believe the power config files, hibernation file, or sleep files, or something corrupted from me playing around too much with the these power features.

That was a few months ago. Then a few weeks ago or so, it started happening again. I suspect this time it was from a windows 10 cumulative update, but I really don't know.

restarting, shutting down, starting up again etc rebuilt the corrupt sleep/hyrbid hibernation files and fixed it each time for me. I don't pretend to understand it, but it fixed it for my system. until next time.

I had to type "powercfg /h on" into command prompt as an administrator to enable those settings. But otherwise I've turned off Fast Boot. I'll report back if my issue reappears. Thanks anyway.

and do the restart followed then by shutting down twice, as that seems to be what fixed it for me.

Yeah, it happened again just recently for me despite the fix I attempted above. I suppose I'll just have to be careful what I leave open now. :/

On a side note, did you change your motherboard to upgrade your CPU? How did it go?

it happened to mine again last night. it rebooted when waking from sleep after I connected it to a ePort Dock. So I installed the highest version of intel gpu driver from Dell's website for P530 (21.20.16.4574), Windows then automatically updated that version to an even higher version about 15 minutes later (a version that was not on Dell's website: 21.20.16.4664). Then I re-installed highest version (382.66) nvidia gpu driver from dell's website (used clean install option). Then I enabled switchable/optimus graphics in BIOS. I'm still on BIOS 1.13.6. Hopefully this will correct the two issues Ive been having lately with waking from sleep... reboot's when awaking from sleep and other times just a blank screen when waking from sleep. My confidence is not high.

Strange though, our other 7710 here in our office is not having these problems that my 7710 is. He is on older BIOS 1.10.? Maybe I will try to rollback to that BIOS if I still have issues with wakening. Other than that these two 7710 are near identically configured, and both are on windows creators.

The first time when 7710 cannot wake from sleep, changed mobo and all went well for 9 months. On the 10th month Dell released their greatest Bios 1.14.4 and the 7710 cannot restart.
    Bios 1.13.6 all ok
Bios 1.14.4 cannot restart. i don't use an e port or any ports at all, in fact Nvidia GC seldom gets activated.
i am really puzzled and i have tried all i can=downgrade/upgrade Bios, flashed both bios from outside windows.

Dell will change the mobo, by next week i hope, they delayed it as part is not available. Seriously change mobo is not something i look forward to, 2 mobo in a year, that's to a Dell Precision 7710 folks, i can't say i am impressed by this machine anymore. BTW did i mention before i flashed bios the TPM 1.2 cannot be detected ?

i was still ok at 1.13.6 but i don't use an E dock, i have had problems on 1.14.4, it's in the thread and the mobo is going to be changed.......again, so it seems lots of issues on wake from sleep, restart symptoms.

@kokies, I'm still getting a reboot when the laptop is supposed to wake from sleep on occaisions. Interestingly though, I notice that it is waking from hibernation, meaning that any program windows or processes that were running previously are still running after the bootup and login. WIndows were still open just as they were when I put it to sleep and processes are still running and in the system tray that would not otherwise be running from a fresh reboot. So I gather form this that it is hibernating rather than sleeping. I may have to toggle my hibernation and sleep settings perhaps for it to correct. Else I'm going to do what I've been trying to avoid up to now and that is to do a reinstall of the OS.
