Precision 7530 & Precision 7730 owner's thread

First of all, in computers there's always something new, faster, better, etc. coming in the next 6 months. When those new GPU's are here, then should you wait for the next processor refresh? And when that's there, how about the next batch of GPU's?
You say you need a notebook in 2 weeks; that means it's time to get one.

I think you need to ask yourself some questions; mainly what it is you really need and what the best way is to get that. A few examples:
- Will you really be upgrading that GPU?
- How much mobility do you need for what kind of work? Maybe all those display requirements can be shifted to an external display.

 

You're absolutely right in that with respect to computers, there's always something new around the corner. However, there's also a cadence to it, and like marching out of step, it feels extremely odd to purchase something right before something new is released.

1. I probably will; if not for a professional workload, I would like to run the occasional high-end AAA game, and this notebook should last well into the early '2020s.

2. Can the Quadro in the Precisions drive G-Sync displays?

 

Just to be perfectly clear, I never recommended the other two, only the GM501GS.

 

Do we have any options to control the fans ? According HWiNFO they spin between 1800 to 2200 RPM with 1800 average. But for my feeling they are loud

 

can't you control using hwinfo?

it works for most dell notebook including alienware

 

I wouldn't worry about dGPU much. Nowadays you can always use an external box for it. I'm using the AW graphics amplifier with my AW 13 R3 and keep the 1060 permanently disabled. Use IGP when on the go and @work and plug it back in at night to shoot some n()()bs in CS GO. This way you get an ice cold system at all times. I really wanted a laptop with 64GB RAM and 3x drives for heavy virtualization, but guess 7530 won't fit the bill.

 

Overall I actually really like the system. I don't have an issue with the feeling of the back panel. Mines been removed at least three times and it's still pretty snug.

When it comes to the screen, there are four major variables when it comes to quality:

• Color gamut
• Pixel obstruction/fault
• Screen door effect prominence
• Backlight bleed

I've experienced two screens so far, the one that came with my system, and one replacement. Both passed 2/4 quality variables, differing each time. My first display had imperceptible screen door effect and no backlight bleed, but had a piece of dust/dark spot and was lower than expected color gamut. My second screen had better color gamut and still no backlight bleed, but had 2 smaller dust/dark spots and very noticeable screen door effect. Bear in mind that I have the touchscreen version, which most people forego.

When it comes to quality control, I can assure you that those vendors offer no safe haven. I still remember when I owned my last Asus and needed a screen replacement... it had an incredibly terrible yellow tint. The second replacement was that way too, not to mention I had to wait two weeks between each one.

Still, if this is something you can accept, it's a perfectly valid approach.

The creator of HWinfo is pretty supportive, try to contact and ask if he can implement better fan control for your laptop
