    Hi

I’m new to the forum and will be an owner of the dell 7530 in two weeks. At that point I would have been waiting for my machine for 6 weeks! Although that is not unheard of, that is really an atrocious turn around time, especially in this day and age. So after lodging numerous complaints with customer service, they have “rushed” the build. And my question is, once I have the computer, how would I be able to verify that the parts inside matches what I specified - either by software or, if I have to, crack it open.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of the Precision. My wife has the 7520 through work, and she swears by it. And I’ve installed and ran Adobe AE, Premiere, PS and LR on it. It’s the reason why this two time MBP owner now wants to jump ship. But at the same time I want to protect myself and confirm that my hard earned money was wisely invested. And I just didn’t pay for refurbished or “close enough” parts that Dell just threw in there just to get me to shut up.

    Thanks in advance!

Oh, that's a terrible pity. If you want to be sure that what you receive is what you configured, then you can use HWiNFO to check your components. The BIOS should have a listing, too. Windows' built-in Device Manager can also help: Windows key + R to open Run window → type devmgmt.msc and scroll through the device listing (pay close attention to the CPU, display adaptors, memory, and disk drives installed).

But I doubt you have much to worry about.

Do choosing Radeon over Nvidia will have an negative impact of machine temperature (even if not using dedicated gpu)?
I mean, if previous systems used different heatsinks for both platforms, isnt it more secure to go with nvidia?

    Same here, as everybody.

Imho, the double thunderbolt 3 connector is a bit loose, and because of a stiff cable I sometimes get dock disconnections when moving the laptop.

Generally speaking, I think usb-c and tb connectors are too small. Legacy usb are bigger but more reliable. They won't disconnect when moving devices.

    Thanks all for your answers.

    I totally agree with you.

The legacy e-port was so conveniant and reliable. I dont' know why Dell gave up this docking connector especially for 7XXX workstations that does not aim to be thin...

Previous systems had a different heatsink not because a difference in heat output/cooling but because the actual GPU cards had slight physical differences that had to be accounted for in the heatsink surface, in order for it to fit properly.

Is it possible it's a weird combination of hardware, GPU, iGPU, and BIOS versions/options that's causing this (secure boot off, etc)? And a potential future BIOS update could resolve the issue? Two machines with the same issue makes me wonder about the cause, and less likely to be a badly seated cable or a defective panel.

I receive a new 7730 and TB18DC dock last week and have only been using the combination for 3-4 days now, but so far it's been good. I have lots of devices running through the dock (e.g., two external monitors daisy-chained through a DP cable, mice and other USB peripherals, etc.).

I ran into one oddity a couple of days ago in where my screens went blank and seemed to cycle for about 30-60 seconds as though I'd unplugged the dock and plugged it back in but it hasn't happened again since.

    Hi All
Is there any real difference between intel i7 8850h compared to the 8750h ? The price is not much more.
How does the intel i7 8850h compared to the 8750h? In some laptops I’ve been reading that the added clock speeds can have a really bad effect on thermals etc
Which one is a better choice ?
    Thanks

In this chassis both have slim chance to attain full boost.

With 8850H you can tune the boost clocks to either lower or higher (by +400mhz per core), so you can set a turbo for all cores to be slightly lower instead of disabling it fully.
It's more flexible as long as you know how to tune it.
