Thank you so much for the info. As luck would have it, the delivery of my machine is delayed again for another 2 weeks and I had to call them today to make sure my order is not cancelled as mandated by the FTC. 8 weeks in total wait time...and counting. So when I finally have my machine, I will try out your tips. Thank you again!

Quick update on some power issues... I noticed that using the trackpad makes power usage skyrocket. Secondly, there's a noticeable 6.6 W (median) power discrepancy between the power discharged from the battery, and the system power as reported by HWiNFO. It is highly coincidental that the Quadro P3200 also idles at ~ 7 W. During all this testing, the Quadro was not awakened (and reported 0 W power draw to HWiNFO); all background apps that could be killed were killed, and only HWiNFO was active.

Here is a quick analysis with data logged from HWiNFO; the large noticeable bumps are when a finger was touched on the trackpad, or a swipe action was done. I noticed no difference between swiping and touching or sliding across.

There are occasional spikes in power draw every second or so, too.

Conclusion: it is possible, even probable, that the Quadro is indeed idling and drawing power, and this is unnoticed by and unreported to the system, even in Optimus mode. Another conclusion: the Dell touchpad driver polls too often.

The average idle power draw on the Precision 5530 (or XPS 15) was ~ 7 W as shown by NotebookCheck, and that machine achieved ~8 hours of battery life, even with a 4K IGZO screen; the 7530 (with just the 1080p display) averages five, which is 37.5% less life.

    This needs to be fixed.

Hi, I received my 7530 about a week ago, firstly. What a machine. Really enjoying it.

One thing that I messed up on is I configured it with only a single 32GB DIMM. So I am looking at changing it to 4 x 16GB DIMMS. So anybody looking at buying the 32GB DIMM from me?

    Hi,

I wanted to share with you that a second (fairly new) 7530 with FHD screen I had a chance to recently examine was equipped with AUO screen, rather than LG. It's still 6-bit (that's what HWiNFO reports), and it's from the B156HAN family. Compared to my LG LP156WF6-SPB1, it seems to have colder colors by default and might be a bit brighter. There's slight chance the view angles are a bit worse (AHVA vs IPS). There are multiple bleeding points, but this might be purely thanks for bezel pressure. The vertical gradient does look better (no clearly visible vertical stripes).

Second interesting info - while examining the second unit, I found out that mine lacks magnets in the palm rest(!). Good work, Dell. I noticed the screen being wobbly when closed, but good latches compensated for it. Anyhow, if you think your unit does not close properly, use something made of metal and see if the magnets are present in the lower corners of the palm rest. I wonder if this is a single case, or a broader problem.

Took delivery of a new 7730 (company laptop).

    i9-8950HK
    Quadro 4200

My Cinebench R15 scores are a bit low. Getting around 1050 multicore (multiple runs) and 175 single core.

Undervolting by -120 mV raises the Cinebench multicore score to ~1150-1200, but single core performance is unchanged. During repeated multicore runs the CPU settles at ~ 3.6 GHz (all cores).

Idle temps are high @ 55-58 C. Max CPU frequency at idle is 4.2GHz.

Running Prime95 torture test the CPU settles at a frequency of ~3.0-3.1 GHz

I get the impression that my CPU is underperforming. I gather this is a sign of poor thermal paste application. It’s a corporate laptop though so I’m not really willing to crack it open to remove the heat sinks...

    Dear all,

I have received my 7530 3 days ago.
I wish I could add a 2.5 sata hdd that I previously owned but when I open the laptop, there is not case for the disc and no connections ie no interposer. I called Dell to ask them the interposer but the tech replied that it is not available and that anyway with 4 cells battery cannot be configured with both ssd m. 2 and hdd 2.5 sata. Sounds surprising no?
So I am trying to understand if that is true because from what I read, the 7530 is supposed to handle both 2.5 and m. 2 in a 4 cells battery configuration.
    Thanks for your help.

You are correct, you should be able to install a 2.5" drive if you have the 4-cell battery, it is only blocked if you have the 6-cell battery.
Try calling Dell Spare Parts instead of the technical support line to order the parts that you need. The part numbers are given in the very first post in this thread. In the U.S., the phone number for Dell Spare Parts is 800-372-3355. (I haven't heard from anyone who has tried to pick up these parts, successful or not... Let us know how it goes.)

Thanks for your answer, I am fighting with dell support in Europe that says it can t be done and you have to choose between either 3 m. 2 pcie or 1 hdd 2.5. Which I said to the support in a non sens and they need to provide me the parts to connect the 2.5 hdd.
I ll tell you how it goes but the European support done online in morrocco isn't efficient at all

One more question :is a crucial mx500 1 to m2 compatible with a pcie port even is the crucial is sata and not pcie?
    In other way can I plug a m. 2 sata to a m. 2 pcie port?

As far as the 7530's M.2 ports are concerned, all three support NVMe, SATA and Optane drives.
