This worries me even more... I just sent DELL a mail almost *begging* to have this somehow resolved, because after a week of trying to live with the UHD screen, I have come to the conclusion that it is unbearable.

And now I'm seeing more and more reports that the (some?) FHD screens are just as rubbish??

We really need poster "jaid" to identify HIS panel, though...

I've experienced this with an Asus laptop a while back. I needed a replacement screen and the ones they kept sending me back had a strong yellow tint. I ended up selling the laptop at a loss when they could not provide an acceptable screen after 3 tries.

You might be able to do a manual replacement by buying an LCD off ebay. I was thinking about doing this myself because even a good version of this FHD screen will still have a strong screen door effect. I was looking at replacing it with a samsung panel, LTN156HL01, but I haven't done enough research on compatibility. It should work, being that they both use eDP 20 pin connectors, but I can't guarantee this. Capt.Gil provided some information on how to remove the screen bezel to replace there screen here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ns-press-release.782179/page-79#post-10231839

Disregard my previous post... Apparently he already looked in device manager. :) But how accurate/relevant is that particular info?

Does anyone know if it's possible to order a part from Dell that didn't originally come with your configuration? I've been playing around with the idea of replacing my display assembly with the touch screen one. If I called them and requested this part, would they be able to provide it? I'd be willing to pay for it and make the replacement myself, but something tells me they wouldn't allow that. Anyone have any experience with this sort of transaction?

I just picked one up on Dell Outlet for $1007 after tax with the 6920HQ, 16 GB of RAM, 500 GB spinning HD (to be augmented by a 256gb M.2 950 Pro when it arrives), 1080p IPS, M1000M, and the 72 w-hr battery. A question: if I pick up a relatively cheap refurb off eBay with a M2000M card and the bigger battery, is it practical to swap the MXM video card out, and the battery out, and then resell the eBay computer? I'm fine taking a bit of a loss here to get the system just right, I just got tired of waiting for the perfect deal on the outlet, and pulled the trigger on a system that will more than work for me. More importantly, does swapping out the video card myself void the warranty? I understand it's not soldered down. I am fine popping the keyboard off as required, more just concerned with the legal/ethical ramifications with regards to the validity of the warranty, especially if I'm gonna resell one of the computers on eBay. Finally, can someone confirm that the Dell Item Number for the 1080p IPS is 0F8GR? Just want to make sure I grabbed the right one. If not I will try to check it out on arrival using the info I've seen here. Thanks for the good data points.

That's a really good price for a 6920HQ! I think that screen is the lower end one, which is 45% NTSC coverage. EDIT: F7HH2 is the p/n for the 72% NTSC screen. They're both IPS.

To my knowledge, removing the GPU does not void the warranty, but the new GPU wouldn't be covered. So if you're buying a cheap M2000M machine, taking out the GPU and putting it into yours, this means two things:

    1. If you need a replacement GPU, they will give you an M1000M.
    2. If the "burner" machine needs a replacement GPU, they'll supply an M2000M.

As long as you specify this detail in your listing, that the GPU does not match the service tag, I think you're covered ethically speaking. However, depending how badly you need the extra graphics power, you might consider waiting til the individual MXM cards start showing up on ebay and performing the upgrade then? You'd save yourself a lot of trouble, but who knows how long it'll take.

Yeah that was my concern re:the screen. I realized after I ordered that I didn't get a good look at the screen spec. My priority was really on making sure I got one with Thunderbolt 3 (rare on the outlet), and the Dell chat rep assured me that that is the case. On the semi-plus side, I have seen a handful of the M2000M cards on eBay already, but they are running $500, so I figure I can grab a $1000 i5 computer, use the M2000M and the higher capacity battery from it, maybe lose a hundred bucks in the deal, and the resell the donor i5 machine and have the computer of my dreams (for another 3 years). At the end of the day, color gamut isn't very important to me, but I have lots of irrational biases towards the better display. We'll see in a few days!

You can make hardware changes without voiding the warranty, however, if you have a warranty issue and those changes are suspect in possibly causing it, Dell can request that you restore the computer to its original hardware configuration before servicing it.

Follow up on Intel graphics driver crashes: I've rolled back to version .4352, dated 12/15/15, and the system has been perfectly stable over days of hard use. I see Dell rolled out .4390 in one of their updates today, 4/18/16. I'll hold off indefinitely on future updates.
