Replacement battery -- I ordered the 6-cell 91watt battery ($139) earlier in the month on the Dell site so I would have a spare for when I am flying. I was expecting delivery last week, but I noticed that they canceled the order. Customer care said they don't know when they can ship the battery, but they have a different model that they can ship, but that is refurbished (item number RDYCT).

Not sure if I'd want a refurbished battery, but does anyone know if the 7510 can fit older style batteries?

The warranty on the refurbished battery says "
11725 1 Warranty Longer of 90 Days or Remainder of System Warranty/ Svc Contract. 21 Day Return. Parts may be Reconditioned. $0.00"

Based on the previous discussion, the TB15 dock can only provide 130watts of power via the TB3 connector no matter how large the power adapter is for the dock.

But I wonder if you daisy chain TB15 with another TB3 device perhaps it can pass along some of the power to it. The only other power that the TB15 can provide is via the powered USB 3.1 gen1 ports -- I'm thinking that collectively those ports can deliver more power, but I can't quantify how much more. I see some references to 15-20 watts per port.

A number of people here are very interested in the experiences with the different exact display types on thise machine. :)

If you have the device there, could you report on what the order reported exactly for the type of display, what device manager shows, the DELL part number... And finally of course the impression of the screen itself, in particular whether it has a pronounced "screen-door effect" or not, and the brightness. Does it show change in contrast and brightness in the corners and near the edges of the screen when sitting right in front, is it usable in daylight conditions?

Read through some of the messages concerning the UHD screen to see where we're coming from...

Keep in mind that the device manager will almost always show "Generic PnP Monitor" and Dell can use a part number for multiple displays. (The part number defines specific characteristics of the display but does not necessarily map to a single manufacturer and model number.) Use a tool like hwinfo64 and you will be able to get the panel manufacturer, model number, and revision specifically. If someone can identify a good one, at least people with concerns have the option of eBaying a replacement and swapping it out themselves, if Dell is uncooperative...

    Thanks for the useful addition...

This whole display issue is constantly tearing me apart, BTW... When the evening falls, the lack of brightness of the UHD screen becomes more tolerable (and the impact of the terrible screendoor effect less horrible), and you start to appreciate the fantastic resolution... But as soon as dusk arrives, I'm screaming for another display again, LOL. Why can't we just have NICE THINGS, especially for this price!!!

I think you meant dawn, not dusk.

Problem: the GPU overheats if the laptop stands vertically.

I've been running some GPU intensive operations, with 100% load for hours, with CPU load low. I often like to stick my laptop on the floor, standing vertically, with the hinge at about 45 deg. The 7510 cannot run in this orientation. The GPU overheats in a matter of minutes. Sitting horizontally, it operates fine indefinitely. Obviously sitting vertically the cooling intake and exhaust are completely clear, so it's not blockage, but apparently fan bade draw I suppose.

Will do. According to Fedex tracking, the computer has inexplicably been in Gallup, NM (6 hrs away, en route to Las Vegas, NV) for about 55 hours now, but I'll post the details of the screen, system, etc. and my impressions once it gets here. My overall goal here is to plug the TB 3 port into an external GPU and replace my I7-3770k/ GTX-660 desktop with it. I'm still a few months, and a little bit of technology away from that goal (not to mention about 600 bucks), but I hope the fast I7 and the added Samsung 950 Pro SSD will get me a pretty good part of the way there. My only showstopper is if it does not have the TB3 port, but according to my chat with the Dell sales rep it does. I figure it's an easy argument (perhaps wishful thinking) to return it if that's not the case.

That's pretty interesting, as I've always thought of placing the laptop in that orientation as helping the cooling system with some natural/free convection.

Same behavior if you place it on the opposite side?

I hadn't thought about that. Testing... amazingly, it overheats in less than a minute when sitting on the side with the 3 USB ports down, and runs indefinitely with the HDMI port side down. What is that telling us?

Of course I need to be hooked to an external monitor, and as such this behavior is unworkable.
