Precision 7510 Owner's Thread

Update: Under constant web searching, word, excel, powerpoint processing, and watching a few 5-10min YouTube videos, I'm getting about 4.5 to 5 hrs battery life on the 91Wh battery. Screen brightness at about 30% and keyboard backlit on at lower brightness setting.

You have just proved that you know nothing, so let me explain it to you.

All expected expenses are already included in price. If expenses or loses will be higher than expected, the company would be forced to: cut costs or increase incomes. One of the most popular way of increasing the income is increasing prices.

Current generation prices include expected service and support costs. However, the next generation prices will be calculated with current generation service costs.

Do not be so ignorant and egoistic. Calling support is a right of every customer, however it is clever and kind to verify problem before call.

 

It doesn't have to be clever. If Dell sees fit to ship a machine that they apparently didn't test fully, then the OP deserves the on-site service he paid for... and next day, not this run-around BS he's getting. There will always be problems, faults, defects, that slip away, and definitely Dell factors service in their pricing. Creditors do exactly the same thing. Then again, that's probably why Dell is having the problems they're having now, but to be fair, I think a majority of Precision users do NOT visit these sites; so I don't think this is representative of the line as a whole. Regardless, it's a bit of a misnomer to say a machine passes 100% ISV certification, and Mil-Spec 810-G testing, yet does not have a functioning discreet video card.... for any reason.

I say again, Windows does have its quirks, but by and far not the worst operating system in the world. While there are driver conflicts from time to time, there are still infinite configurations that simply work. I wouldn't mind using any version of Linux if it could run the CAD/CAM system I use, and didn't have to relearn half of everything all over again.

I’m glad I didn’t have to read all the negative comments, thanks for the people on my side of understanding a situation. I spent quite a bit of time trying to resolve this issue, before calling Dell. When I pay for a laptop that has certain parts that cost $3,400 I expect it to be working when shipped. I recently bought a Lenovo P50, with the same graphics card, and it arrived working. I would not have purchased a 4K screen with a basic graphics card. I purchased an Alienware 15 R2 that has the exact same issue, and another service order to fix that later this week. I am an IT person, and own my own consulting firm, so I tried to trouble shoot and fix the issue prior to contacting Dell. I went through 4 different new XPS 15 laptops that has a bunch of issues, that others are having reading those threads, so I gave up on that model. The dell technician that came out, I educated him on how to take apart and do install and he installed new graphics card and replicated the same issue I was having except it didn’t fix the problem. Dell decided the next best fix, was to replace motherboard, so I will report back once that gets installed tomorrow o see if that fixes the issue. I purchased over 30K in laptops last year, and you get used to understanding the good and the bad of problems out there, just like the issues going on with the Razer Stealth that has issues, that I will be returning that laptop. The 7510 is a good model, with the less issues, so hopefully that gets fixed and I can experience the great laptop it is and expected.

 

The OS could be deleted for many reasons. One would be downgrade to Win7, other could be upgrade to Win10. The buyer has the license for each and the computers are sold as such. My quote was misrepresented; I was referring specifically to a video card not functional. Dell's service is 3 years on site after remote diagnostics, and it seems Dell's tech support determined the same thing the OP did. Dell doesn't use Ubuntu to diagnose their machines, and doesn't suggest it to their customers. Really, if you bought a new Ferrari, and the hood pain't had orange peel, would you get compound and a buffing wheel to resolve the issue?

As to Windows... it's gotten way better at auto-detection of hardware. I've installed Win10 on everything from an almost 10 year old VAIO to an 2013 ASUS to my M6400 and M6500. And it found all hardware. I can't say that about any Windows OS from 1 to 7. And they had some garbage in there (WinME, Vista)... You COULD try installing the Nvidia driver... but I'm pretty sure with the issue at hand the installer would return a "Device Not Found" message going by the description. Then, either the MXM card is ajar, not functional (defective or even wrong vBIOS), or the MXM port itself has an issue.

 

I did another test on the battery life today. This time I left the laptop playing YouTube videos from 98% to the 7% warning while I was working. The screen brightness was set at about 20-30%. It took about 6.5hrs to drain it to 7%. I didn't hear the fan coming on at all. It was dead silence when I muted the volume. It was light warm when touch the bottom. I was very impressed. The windows 10 with the samsung evo 840 ssd turn this machine to a super quiet machine.

I don't use this machine outdoor. The 1080p IPS Touchscreen with glossy finish is awesome. Very pleased with this machine.

 

When you delete operating system, your graphic card would not work properly. It is extreme example, but there are many other software possibilities: drivers conflict, wrong drivers installation order (AMD for example: IMPORTANT: The Intel graphics driver must be installed first before installing the AMD graphics drivers!, Source: http://downloads.dell.com/published/pages/precision-m7510-workstation.html), viruses etc.

I hope your problem will be solved. Your issue is very unusual, so I am very curios what is the reason. Every mobile workstations is tested before delivery, but it is possible that motherboard is broken.

However, if you did not eliminate software reason, it is still possible that your operating system has a problem.

Please share your experience to choose my better.

My old machine.......I have used Windows 7 pro and working more than 3-4 years.
Not a single problem. I tried with windows 10 on this, but something problems.

I am not aware and hands on 7510, so plz share views.
