I've had a persistent problem for months now that I'm finally going to ask about:
I have an annoying problem where sometimes, if I watch youtube videos on chrome, my wifi hangs.
I'm forced to disconnect and reconnect to get it going again. For some reason, I never have any wifi problems if I don't use youtube, and the youtube wifi hang doesn't always happen when I view youtube. At least once or twice a day though.

Does anyone know what's going on with this? I keep hoping one of the driver updates/patches fixes this, but it never stopped.

Overall, pretty happy with the laptop, though!

Are you meaning that your wifi signal disconnects as indicated in your notification tray? Or is it the youtube buffering stream halted?

I would try testing youtube in another browser for a day or two, such as Edge browser, to see if you get a different result than with the chrome browser. Then I would, in the chrome address bar, type "chrome://flags" and reset to default (incase they were somehow changed). Then I would go to "chrome://settings" and at bottom click 'Advanced', then scroll down and change (try checking or unchecking) the "Use hardware acceleration if available" option to see if you get improved results. You could also try the "Reset" at very bottom of that advanced settings page. Next step would be to completely uninstall chrome and reinstall it. Those are steps I would try.

Well just a month out of the 1 year warranty, I think the battery has crapped out. The laptop wont turn on without the charger plugged in. The battery percentage right now is at 65% but "not charging." Reading a few posts here and other pages, it seems like it could be something different than just replacing the battery. Just wondering if anyone experienced it here? If so what resolved your problem?

I ran into similar charging problem with my 7710 but only was issue when docked. Here is my post describing my problem with charging and showing how I resolved it near end of that thread posting
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/hands-on-dell-precision-7710.785166/page-85#post-10579671

First confirm that there isn't Peak Shift, Advanced Charging or a Battery Extend option preventing AC adapter from charging the battery. Then I followed these steps as described in more detail above link: basically, I shutdown - disconnected AC - removed battery - connected AC - powered on - laptop then sees it is connected to AC - powered off - disconnected AC - installed battery - reconnected AC cable - powered on - laptop sees AC cable connected and also then began to charge.

I also uninstalled the ACPI battery controller adapter in device manager. It then reinstalled ACPI automatically. I had read that the ACPI battery controller reinstall can fix strange battery charge issues

    hi guys,
Could someone who owns a notebook with w5170m post a screenshot of gpu-z, and check discrete gpu's frequences under load? I want to check gpu bios version, because I have a problem with it. It always runs on low clocks (400MHz core, 300MHz mem), even under 100% load. This is not a driver issue - on linux it works the same way.

Quick test gives Core at 925 MHz and Memory at 1125 MHz, even with 50% load.

    Thanks.
Bios version is the same, so it seems like i have a hardware problem.
