Precision 7510 Owner's Thread

Picked up one of these a couple of weeks ago. It's great, decent specification (i7-6920, nvme, m2000m, 4k) and it's been completely issue free so far. Really nicely put together machine. I've sold off my Thinkpad p70 (lovely but just too big to carry round) and my Dell XPS 9560 (lovely display but never managed to be stable in 6 months use). Very happy.

 

I am unable to connect 4 external displays to 7510 that is docked with E-Dock Plus II (Graphic Switching disabled in BIOS). I should be able to connect 6 displays according to http://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/19/help-me-choose/hmc-precision-graphics-card?ref=CFG (under Features & Benefits tab)

What could I be missing?

I have DP1, DP2 and VGA connected from the dock and HDMI directly to 7510 (while docked) - The HDMI display will not be detected in Win 10

It seems i have broken EDID in my 4k lcd.
Please provide monitor data from the Windows registry (regedit.exe).

For this you need to export the branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\DISPLAY\SHP1430.

Has anyone tried a WiGig card in the 7510. I replaced the wifi bluetooth card with an intel 8265 (which works fine by the way) and I noticed that there is a third antenna in the wifi card bay. Since the WiGig card takes three antennas I was wondering if Dell prewired these laptops for WiGig and just didn't tell anyone. The cards are pretty cheap on ebay(~ $20) so I may just give one a try.

Pretty sure its standard practice for Dell to wire three antennas to the Wi-Fi card slot. There were a lot of 802.11n cards that used all three antennas for a 3x3 configuration (450 Mbps). For some reason only two antennas are used for most 802.11ac cards for a rated speed of 866 Mbps, but there are now three-antenna cards out there that would get you 1.3 Gbps if your access point supports it.

 

Well just for the hell of it I found a Dell WLD15 and an Intel 18265 on ebay just to give it a try. I'm pretty sure it won't work but the parts were cheap. I'll let everyone know the outcome of the experiment.

 

I believe only the WiGig versions have the third antenna - if you look at the part numbers/detail for the display assemblies, you'll see wigig specified for some of them.

 

I have a Precision 7510 bought when first released (November of 2015).

I noticed lately that the screen is flickering at top. Additionally, today, after my son was playing Space Engine (he likes the graphics on Dad's workstation) for a few hours I noticed the fans were running very fast and the system was very hot to the touch. I powered the system off and went to remove the battery but couldn't slide the release mechanism. I finally was able to get the battery cover off and discovered the battery was swollen.

Has anyone else experienced this? I am sending back to Dell to have repaired once I receive the box.

I've seen reports of the swollen battery in the Precision 5510, but this is the first that I saw for the 7510...
Which battery do you have?
