Does anyone here have a hint on how to take apart the TB15 dock. I know how to remove the interface card but I want get to the main circuit board. I'm guessing you have to remove the rubber pad that covers the bottom but I'd like to know for sure before I start destroying the thing.

    Thanks!!

Hey there. New 7510 owner... bought from Dell outlet. Have a few of questions I'm hoping that you folks can answer for me.
    1. Is the audio vibration issue I'm having w/the buttons on the trackpad a problem for everyone or is that something only a small number of users have experienced?
    2. I can't find a way to enable the backlight on the keyboard. How do you enable it?
    3. Fan noise - It can get pretty loud. Any recommendations to minimize it?
    Thanks!

    1. Can't comment, I don't use the built-in audio.
    2. You can switch it on the BIOS. It is possible that you have a non-backlit keyboard. Upgrading to the backlit version is not difficult and they can be found easily on eBay.
    3. Install "Dell Power Manager" (you can grab it from support.dell.com). In there you can choose between some thermal profiles. I typically keep mine set to "quiet" which puts a cap on the CPU speed but also keeps the fan noise level down. I bump it up if I need to run a CPU-intensive job.

Thanks for the response. Apparently, I don't have the backlit keyboard. I don't know if installing one would void my warranty or not.

On point number 1 - My trackpad buttons feel loose and flimsy compared to the solid build of the rest of the computer. The vibrations in the buttons make you think initially that the speakers are bad. When I rest my fingertips on the buttons, the vibration stops and the speakers sound as they should. If there is a fix for this... or a replacement that part that addresses this problem - indeed if it has been recognized as a problem, that would be great. I wonder what other users' experiences have been.

You can replace any part of the system that you like and it will not affect your warranty. The warranty of course only covers parts that came in the system, not anything you add. If you have a warranty issue, Dell has the option of requesting that you restore the computer to its original configuration before they fix it. (In reality, they don't do this very often unless it seems that your changes may be related to the issue.)

Dell actually has detailed directions for replacing every part available in the manual which you can grab from support.dell.com.

Do any 7510 owners have their laptops on the go often than not? I realize these are quite a bit bigger than the 5510 and even the 3510; however, there are some great deals on the 7510s right now.

I have my computer out on meeting several times a day, but almost all the meetings are in the same building, even the same floor. So although I would have it on the go, I would t really be shouldering it for great distances.

I take mine to meetings all the time, it's no big deal. It may be slightly larger and heavier than some laptops but it is by no means unruly to carry around. With a dock it is easy to just pick it up and go, and have everything connected again with no fuss once you return. I just undock it and pick it up and go. I'm not often carrying around other stuff (papers, etc.).

If you're going to be away from your desk for longer than the battery lasts (4 hours or so, more if you're careful about power usage), it might be more of an issue, as the power adapter is somewhat large.

If you are traveling longer distances you can just get a backpack-type case to carry it in. (You would need something for carrying it between buildings anyway, in case of bad weather...)

I carried my M6700 (17") to and from work every day for about a year and a half, but for that I made sure that I only had to move the machine and I had extra power adapters, mice, etc. at both home and work.

    Greetings all,

This is my first post here, sorry if the question had been answered before, but I really need to know whether this could be accomplished.
About a month and a half ago I bought an Dell Precision 7510 - CTO BASE (i7-6820HQ and Nvidia M2000M) from a person and after short while I started upgrading it - swapping the palmrest for one with Fingerprint reader/SmartCard (with all the goodies) , the left I/O board so that I have USB-C and of course the base (actually I just replaced the surrounding base bezel surrounding the chassis) so that the holes are there.

The thing now, is that I want to replace the screen with the UHD 3840x2160 version, non-touch is fine.
    Currently I have the 15.6" FHD(1920x1080) Anti-Glare LED-backlit (45% color gamut) :
    Part Number : R52WF
    Quantity: 1
Description: LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.6FHD, IN PLANE SWITCHING, AG, EDP1.2, LEGEND

My question is, is that possible? If so what do I have to buy, do I need something extra besides the LCD screen panel itself?
If so, what screen model/name/brand should I look for replacement? Has anyone tried to do that before, please share your story!

    Thanks,
    markov

    BIOS 1.10.7
(I'm working with it at the moment, W7 & Ubuntu)

Linux kernel 4.11 adds NVMe power managament (APST), power usage is back very very good : <4 W, IDLE and no backlight, no wifi. Like running SATA SSD.
