Physically, perhaps, because the 3D height-map of the top part "needs to" adhere to the MXM 3.0B standard.

Otherwise, the W5170M is actually the same chip as the desktop Radeon 7770 (and later rebrands), or the laptop versions thereof, including the FirePro M5100. Actually, was the W5170M ever made in the B format? Wikipedia says it was in the Precision 7510 and Zbook 15 G3, which would necessarily mean "A"...

W5170 is the next best card on M4600 if RDX560 fails..

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-AMD-W51...574869?hash=item56a42c9dd5:g:S7MAAOSwldRZ-LGY

    4GB memory and it's 15% faster than M5100.

To be honest, M1000M and M4700 will be a better combo for the same price. M1000M is now only $100 on ebay...
HP, Lenovo, MSI still ask $1400+ for their workstation laptops with this M1000M card.
M1000M on M4700 could be a great deal.

    Lenovo P-50 with M1000M is $1200..

Give that up and just buy M1000M for $100 and put it inside M4700 which now costs $260 to get exactly the same performance LOL

The 15% difference might only apply at stock clocks - 775MHz for the M5100 versus 925(?) for the W5170M. With the BIOS mod posted around page 29 (i believe) in this thread, that's a moot point :) And i'm not very sure how big of a difference the difference in VRAM might make...

You will saturate the core long before ever touching over 2gb vram. Especially in modern titles.

The one exception I can think of is half life 2 cinematic mod

4GB VRAM may help a little if you make 3D videos and animations on After Effects, Photoshop, Premiere Pro which need lots of power and memory.

Rendering HD 3D animations and video on After Effects is more demanding than playing games. That's why I want to try these cards.

15 minutes of 3D animations take 3 hours+ to export if you use poor cards.

Prove it, that doesnt make much sense at all. I am ignorant and am willing to concede that to you but its sounds ridiculous.

These cards have existed for a while so you should be able to find plenty of examples I would imagine.

I always here about CPU / Storage speed and almost never about GPU specific loads that allocate more VRAM than core saturation.

    I had M6600 with K3000M 2GB card running inside.
It took 2 hours+ to export short animations on after effects.
Animations beyond 10 minutes will not be possible to render easily on K3000M even with the lowest quality export setting.

That's why I'm guessing 4GB & higher speed cards will be better because these workstation cards claim they're made for Adobe creative suites.

I don't know until I test it though. I had K5000M card but had to sell it.
    Now am back with M4600.

Ok but was the core saturated or the VRAM fully allocated?
