Possible GPU upgrade for Precision M4600

Isn't that virtually the same thing as the RX560 (albeit officially the cut-down version), for three times the price, and yet-unknown compatibility with laptops (thinking of video BIOS issues here)?

And also have yet to see anyone with them either.

 

E9260 MXM uses only 50W while RX560 MXM needs 80W to run.
So I think E9260 card will run cooler than RX560 although I think RX560 will likely run on M4600.




Overall, RX560 has better spec. RX560 is faster.

I'm wondering what that E9950 MXM A card will be like. It has 8GB memory for MXM A size!

 

Underclock the RX560 and you'll get into (or at least really close to) the power envelope of the E9260, so there's no mystery or rocket-science going on there.

The E9550 is basically a full-fat RX480/580, but i'm hiiiiiighly skeptical they can (or will) shoehorn it into an A, and/or the "A" there is not a typo.

One thing that's sure to be, is expensive as **beeeeep** (if the E9260's anything to go by).

 

Yes.. it's going to be crazy if they make it into an A card..

 

In my case, the cooling (which is downgraded since / from the M4600) definitely won't be able to handle it.

That being said, that's nowhere near as pricey as i was expecting, actually. I figured it had to be at least +50% of the E9260... Although at that price, it's comparable to what i've read some desktop boards might go for, nowadays (what with the cryptomining stuff).

But still damn expensive - my whole M4800 might be worth around that much

 

right.. RX560 is the best MXM A graphic card deal of our time.
No other card comes close to its spec and price.

If it works, it will turn all M4600, M4700 Dell Precision series into newer, powerful gaming & mobile workstation laptops that can beat Asus GL553 which costs $1,300 to purchase as new.

RX560 M4600 will rival spec of Asus Zephyrus with 1060 Max-Q.. RX560 is on par with 1060 Max-Q. Asus Zephyrus costs $2500 to buy as new and I don't think that's relevant amount of money to spend on a laptop.

Asus Zephyrus with 1080 is my dream laptop. They indeed crammed GTX 1080 into a 15 inch laptop.. but it has only 1 hour battery life and costs $2500 minimum.
I doubt Zephyrus will come with a better keyboard than M4600 keyboard though.

 

Well, the M4600/4700 compatibility is (still) questionable, and totally hinges on whether or not an LVDS output is still available. If not, that's pretty much a no-go.

That would also lock out earlier fullHD / QHD M4800's, as it turns out (both using the LA-9771P mainboard), and that's the boat i'm in myself.
On the bright side, i would still have an upgrade path, by replacing my mainboard, LCD, video cable and top lid Seems they did put out an eDP-output mainboard later on (LA-9772P, Dell P/N 08KWV8 or 0C3V2K).

RX580 looks identical to W5170M card though.
