Most of those cards perform roughly the same as the m5100 I have currently... That 1050 is tempting, but it's ~$100 more for such a small bump in performance...

The rx560 has been purchased, and should be on it's way in a few weeks. I ended up grabbing a m4800 as well, so if the 560 doesn't end up working in the m4600, hopefully it'll work in the m4800.

RX560 is the deal.. it's better than 1050m and it costs $100 less.
and there's a high chance that RX560 will work on M4600 just like M5100.
RX560 is newer than 1050m. For $180, there's no other laptop graphic card like this!

I think M4600 still has the best laptop keyboard ever made. It's some of the greatest I've used. Asus, Lenovo, HP don't come even close.

Is it still uncertain that the RX560 will work on a M4700, or is it only doubtable in case of the M4600?

At least in the case of the (desktop) RX460's, i've read many (if not all) could be unlocked to the full 16/1024 with a BIOS mod (provided you wouldn't then update the drivers). Also, it depends which batch of chips these MXM boards were made with, and what BIOS revision etc.

The Radeon Pro 460 or whatever it was called, the one in the MacBooks, was the full 16/1024 chip, if memory serves, and since the 560 is the same die... Either way, fingers crossed, and hoping to hear (good?) news from either @valuxin or yourself :)

I could be wrong on this one, but unless my memory's playing tricks on me, i believe the M4600 compatibility hinges on whether the RX560 board still has a LVDS output. Looking at the block-diagram of the M4700, it would seem as it's in the same bucket as the M4600.

The M4800 is good with DisplayPort / eDP outputs only (has a LVDS converter for the internal display, and an HDMI adapter chip for the respective output).

So, valuxin has a 4600 mounted to a television, and is only able to output to the external display with the edp cards, but the 4800 can run the laptop screen off of the integrated graphics.

I have no idea which of the 3 motherboard varieties is in the m4800 I ordered, but it shouldn't really matter, as I can just drive an external screen off of the rx560 if necessary...

I think I have it all straight, and hopefully I've given myself enough options -I'd love for the 560 to have lvds out and work flawlessly in the 4600, but a quick re-read of this thread dampens my optimism a bit -We'll see...

Per the k2200 mxm on m4800 video:

"M4800, there being 3 type motherboard. one is LVDS output motherboard as intend for an old-fashioned analog HD/FHD screens. second one is eDP and RGB backlight output motherboard, that is for an QHD+ screen. third one is eDP motherboard."

That's encouraging -Is there a reference bios sitting around for mxm 460s? I don't see any mxm entries on tpu...
