I'm honestly not surprised though, the chassis redesign on the Exx20 machines was a oddity, usually chassis changes happen when Latitude's completely change generations.

They've made small tweaks to the current formula though, replacing the orange accents with (imo boring but I've ranted before...) silver accents, etc.

Not really...there was a mid-cycle refresh with the D620 as well, and it was a fairly significant departure from the D610's looks.

Usually a significant chassis refresh is every other generation: D600/D610, then D620/D630, then E6400/E6410. Hence I was skeptical about Dell doing a refresh after one generation.

Is Dell going to start the F-series after this Latitude?

Personally I like the looks of E6400/6410 the best

That's what I have now - coming up to three years old. Bit of a dilemma what to replace it with...

New Latitude - dull & bulky
HP ProBook - don't like the non-backlit keyboard, and bulky.
HP EliteBook - again no backlit & bulky
    Lenovo ThinkPad - dated looks
Apple - non stater for me, as an IT Pro.

That leaves consumer notebooks & I detest cheap plastic models so that rules out everything under £900.

UltraBooks have the style and I'm very tempted by the Samsung Series 9 but I do wonder if it's style over substance and herein lies the problem.

Do I go for functionality & performance or style and slightly less performance?

What are other Latitude owners upgrading to?

Before I decided to just keep my D630 (doing the math it's a far more affordable option to just upgrade this one's components) I looked at all my options briefly:

Elitebook: I liked the older design more...the current models look like there's 2 notebooks put together...

Thinkpad: OK but bland, I'd likely get it just to really live with one for a while, they're nice systems

Latitude: Like the design but want something different

MacBook Pro: Great design, what I'd really want, but it's pricey even used...

Samsung Series 9 15" ticks all the boxes for me, but worried the keyboard won't be as good as the Latitude. Do lots of coding so this is vital to me.
