Very much so considering buying one of these come January when they release them with Thunderbolt ports. I do have a few questions though. For instance, the current incomplete configurator will not allow a RAID5 with 3 identical drives, so how is that supposed to work if its an option? Also, is it worth going of the M3000m for someone who doesn't need a lot of graphical prowess outside of the occasional off duty game? Lastly, should I keep my desktop with its aging AMD 1090T, 16GB DDR3, SSD, & 280X?

Only you can answer these questions. :p

You should check the specs of the graphics cards, sometimes in the Precision the AMD cards perform better than the lowest-end NVIDIA card for gaming, even though they cost less. I haven't checked on these particular GPUs. (I prefer NVIDIA myself so I would go for the M3000M at a minimum.)

I'd say, keep the desktop for a couple months and dump it if you find that you don't use or need it anymore.

Also, you can always configure the RAID yourself after you get the system.

Am I missing something? When I work up a system, it says "Ships in 12 - 16 Business Days"

Also, Mano, are other CPU options coming available in the near future, are are these 3 it?

    Intel® Xeon® E3-1535M v5 (Quad Core 2.90GHz, 3.80GHz Turbo, 8MB 45W, w/Intel HD Graphics P530)

I placed an order for a system using the previous generation yesterday with the other guys, which is who I've always used in the past, but may cancel and order from Dell if these delivery dates are firm and I can get answers on some questions.

I just mentioned the basic configuration for Dell Precision 7710 with Xeon and 4K will cost that money. Compared with Lenovo ThinkPad P70, at least they have it posted on the website. I'm following both realeases to decide which one to buy with basic and then gradually upgrade. :)

What's the advantage to getting 5510 vs XPS15? I'm due up for a new PC early next year and would like to go light from my existing setup (M6700 w/ Firepro m6000). I'm looking at graphics options and the Quadro M1000M seems like a significantly underpowered graphics card compared to the GTX960M included with the XPS. I'm not tasked with much CAD work these days and we're also moving on to using Solidworks pretty much exclusively for 2D drawings. i7-6700HQ doesn't seem like a significant step down from either the i7-6820HQ or the 1505 Xeon.

Just curious - what are you using for the 3D modeling portion of your work?
